Re: PRIVATE YOUTH HOCKEY
Some High schools do but minnesota hockey makes them play B. Like Blake. But all of the other schools don't want to have a "b" team so they just don't have them. <p></p><i></i>

Re: PRIVATE YOUTH HOCKEY
Plus most people don't decide to go to a private school or what school they will go to until they are in high school so it would make a youth team pointless<br> <p></p><i></i>

Better would be, Why not have 7 and 8th grade hockey teams?<br>All the other sports, Football,Basketball ect. take over from the youth? <p></p><i></i>
Re: PRIVATE YOUTH HOCKEY
Not that long ago, youth teams were run by the schools in some parts of the State. But it limited activities to just Saturday on the weekend. It also had many other drawbacks. The plus side was the cost, for the most part, was absorbed by the school district (of course they need to keep this in-line with the other sports so it is a drawback). <br><br>Most youth basketball programs are run through AAU (or the greater part of their schedule). Youth baseball runs through many different organizations, but not tied to school. <p></p><i></i>

I believe Blake has a bantam B team- Not sure D3 will allow them to have an A team- anyone know why? <p></p><i></i>

blake
not sure why they weren't allowed to but they wouldn't have competed at all at the A level. <p></p><i></i>

Re: PRIVATE YOUTH HOCKEY
Blake had a lot of players that went back to thier respective youth teams once they found out that the Blake team had to play at the "B" level. (ie. Blake Doering of Chaska and Charlie Devries of Orono) <p></p><i></i>

Mr. Snatch played in the old CAA hockey league back in his prime. It was actually very good competition in its day, but I would assume due to the number of school closing and the number of lower number of students attending private schools has changed the game.POND15 wrote:"They do have their own league"<br><br>The league is six teams: Maternity of Mary/St. Andrews, Minnehaha Academy, Nativity, Transfiguration, St. Joseph, and St. Rose. <br>CAA hockey teams will be co-ed: boys and girls will be playing. <br>There is no checking in CAA hockey. <br>Games will be played outdoors at Edgecumbe Rec and North Dale Rec. It actually was pretty good competition. I played in the CAA for 2 years in the early 80's. There were some pretty good hockey teams back then. All the games were played outside except the the playoffs were played indoors at the State Fair Coliseium. Man was that a blast for a 13 year old. I'm still heart broken over that championship loss to IHM.Mr. Snatch played in the old CAA hockey league back in his prime. The CAA is alive and well today but it's true like others have posted, it's different. Girls are now mixed in with the boys which means it's no contact. The talent is pretty diluted as compared to the level it was 20 years ago. You have kids who play "A" bantams, "B" pee wees, girls, and kids who never played before all mixed together.
The games are still played outside but the playoffs are now played at the Augsburg College rink. Usually, depending on school, the teams are made up of 6th - 8th graders.
Regardless of the competition level, the kids still enjoy representing their school in a sport. And last year my son's team won the CAA hockey championship. While it's not on the same level as the bantam state tournament, it was still fun to watch. And it made up for that championship loss to IHM in 1981!!

"I find tinsel distracting"
Hmmm where to begin with this one?? First the 7-8th graders went back to their youth hockey associations not back to their local schools. They went back because Blake was not allowed to field an A team. They may not have had enough talent but I do believe they won the B1 State Championship.puckeyone wrote:Those 7-8th graders that went from Blake, must have found out that the acedemics at Blake were to tuff, cant believe they went there just for Hockey
Not sure if they think the "academics" are "too tough" but I'm thinking some posters on here might have enormous difficulty passing their entrance exam! At least the English portion.
Gotta luv it!Doglover wrote:Hmmm where to begin with this one?? First the 7-8th graders went back to their youth hockey associations not back to their local schools.
