Select 14's
I heard they are now doing a select 14's because they feel minnesota is falling behind the other states when it comes to kids being noticed. any feelings on this? anybody been asked for it?

Re: Select 14's
I don't know who would be organizing a Select 14 - it's not Minnesota Hockey. When it was proposed to the Minnesota Hockey Board last fall it was voted down by something in the neighborhood of a 26-0 margin.

re: select 14's
I heard it was some guy in Bloomington. Probably wanted to have his kid play so he organized it. Anyway, it is supported by USA hockey but not Minnesota Hockey. I heard he was asking 100 players (don't know what the criteria is) and than he would narrow it down and bring a team to the National tournament.

Thanks for the info livedreamhockey. Post more if you find out what the scoop is.

Re: re: select 14's
The select 14's do not go to a national tournament.

And the guy is not supported by USA Hockey. It is a separate thing. Nothing to do with USA Hockey.

Re: re: select 14's
my understanding of it was that 80 players were chosen to play in a tournament in the cities. they would narrow it down to 40 and take those kids the the national tournament in ann arbor michigan.

I am the souperstar.

Re: re: select 14's
It's not the USA Hockey national tournament. All teams wishing to enter have to declare by November 1. And they have to roster through the local affiliate (minnkota). And they have to have the requisite number of games prior to the tournament. This person is not (NOT) involved with a USA Hockey program.

And the Select 14 program is similar to the 15's. They do not have teams from each affiliate, just players. They are then placed on different teams for development and scrimmages. It is not a contest to determine which state (or affiliate) has the best team. And it takes place in the summer.

This is a totally different deal.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... liott70 at: 3/18/06 10:41 pm

Re: re: select 14's
Sorry, my bad Elliot. Just goes to show that sometimes what you hear in the rumor mills is not necessarily true. I did know that USA hockey had a select 14 and Minnesota Hockey did not so I assumed the info was true...thanks for correcting it.

Re: re: select 14's
I think we should have selects 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 & 7.... heck why not 6 also ( I mean Advance ) for all the future stars. In fact I'll run the program. just send me a check for $2,000 as a deposit and we'll have a group of 80 players tryout for the best Mn team ever. They'll be sponsered by Bauer (Jill), Easton (Darla), Sherwood (Heather) plus a few more to be mentioned later. Everything will evolve around your future nhl'er, only the best need to apply. Development, heck we'll only play games since thats what parents think make their kid better. Ooop's! now I let out the secret to this program.... oh well, you can still send me the deposit.
Now seriously, I think the advance program for 15's and older is great. As long as politics doesnt get in the way, which we know it does at least at the 16 and 17 ages. Which is another problem Mn Hockey should fix.
Sincerely, Entreprenuer

Re:
Another big money maker for the organizer. Why do people get suckered into these scams? Well... if it makes you feel good that you were "selected to play" send in your money and play.

Great post, Gferhock1. I don't disagree with one bit of your post. Here's a question, though:

Quote:
Now seriously, I think the advance program for 15's and older is great.
