also warroad vs. east grand forks.

there were fights on the ice during the hand shakes, fights in the crowds, and most games went to overtime.

Fergus Falls vs. Detroit Lakes

Peewees, Bantams, Squirts, ..Football, Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, girls, boys..... ... band....
Fergus Falls vs. Detroit Lakes. Not Fergus hockey v DL hockey...
any sport, boys or girls, any level, any season, Fergus Falls may be undefeated and Detroit Lakes hasn't won and DL may route Fergus and vice-versa.... They usually play in the same section in any sport, a lot of times the top seed is at stake. There are playoff upsets, bad feelings, blood, good nature, sportsmanship...all tied up together.

Hockey recent history: Fergus Falls took over in a section that DL had all to themselves when the Otters moved down to class A in the 1995-96 season....Detroit Lakes beat Fergus in the 96 section final in double OT, Fergus came back the next season and won 7 strait championships....untill Wadena and Little Falls ended it in the spring of 04, Neither team has been great since but the rivalry is still on.
It is only time before the Otters and Lakers begin dominating section 6 again.....

Woodbury vs Park for any sport turns into a very physical game. Even if one team is significantly better it is always a good game. Lately because of the upset in 06-07 to go to state Woodbury vs. Cretin have always been a good game. Both have very good squads that tend to rely on finese rather than power to it's interesting to watch how physical the game gets.

Breck versus Blake... they have met in the section finals in the past couple years. The whole schools (though they are small) come out for the game.

This thread has been an interesting one. I have seen Roseau vs. Warroad, White Bear vs. Hill Murray and I have seen East vs. Cloquet. There are many honorable mentions too. Some being, STA vs. Cretin, and Virginia vs. Hibbing.

The true quetion is what rivalry is the best. It is a very open-ended question. If we are talking from way back in the 50's and 60's to now, then yes Roseau vs. Warroad would definately be that.

Although, there are more rivalries in these past years that can give Rosea/Warroad a run for their money. One of those being White Bear/Hill Murray. Yes, Hill Murray has beaten White Bear lately. However, White Bear has taken them to overtime and even a double overtime once in a while. Also, for it to be a true and great rivalry there has to be a good fan base for BOTH teams. Half of the fun of attending a rivalry is watching the fans go at each others throats. Being that they share an arena they will both have good turn-outs.

Therefore in the past years I believe that the Hill Murray vs. White Bear Lake has the best rivalry.
