Congrats on producing AA power teams out of Rochester.
Rochester got to their population by annexing nearby townships and not with real growth. The other interesting thing is that over the last 20 years I have seen 1 Somali in youth hockey, 0 Mexican kids and 0 Hmong kids. That's the population growth area. It would be interesting to compare youth numbers today to the numbers involved when Rochester was 55,000.

In defense of DD80, I just looked on MGHCA and see November 25th Mayo 4 Fbo 1. No overtime there and in Fbo's barn. Total score Mayo 6 Fbo 2.

Faribault vs. Red Wing Section 1A semi-final on KCUE AM 1250 in Red Wing and on the web at www.1250kcue.com
Pre-game show around 7:40pm as we chat with coaches Scott Haley of Red Wing and Steve Gravgaard of Faribault. Face-off at 8pm assuming the first game between Northfield and Albert Lea dosen't go into OT!

Falcon 89 Fan I love your energy and passion for your team but do not put down teams you have no clue about , your Comment of DODGE COUNTY being quality? Remeber you are the three seed in section One single A and Dodge County beat your #1 seed and was up 1-0 in the third and lost 2-1 to your #2 seed. Please play us and see the result before you bash kids and teams. Faribault has some good players and is a decent team but Dodge County is not a weak team by any means which if u watched the 4 on 4 league this fall or the double OT loss 1-0 to lakeville North. or ask coach Phillips from Mayo in our scrimmages with them what shots and goals were,(I Can tell U no where close to 60-6 in shots like your team getting pounded by mayo.) I am not looking for some crazy response comparing apples and oranges, as we should but dont play each other, POINT is to not slam a team down you have no clue about. Good Luck to your team and players Keep up the energy as a fan but dont hate on those you are not educated about. Thanks

Wow we agree Southside? Guess you RW people are not too bad

What are these Rochester AA people doing on our site anyway :?: Guess the AA sites are not as exciting. The are always making excuses for their lack of a youth program.

As I have said, I feel that this will be a close game. However FBO will come out on top.

GO GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree Gundy! Dodge County is defensively one of the better teams I watched this year and really come to play. Sounds like the section game OT loss was a good one, sorry you guys couldn't have come out on the other end with a win. Congrats on a great year!

I'm going to skip church tonight and go to Owatonna. I will be wearing purple with a big 1AA on my back and I'm going to sit in the middle of our feathered friends in green. Can you say Group Hug?

I pick AL over NF... 2-1... AL has been playing very well lately and NF has struggled to pull themselves together.

Also,
RW over FBO... 4-1 ... RW has been very solid all season and FBO has failed to prove they can beat quality teams.
Endurance, I like the way you think

I will even venture to say that the second game tonight will be the closest of the two.

Wow, a lot has happened since I last logged on. Quite a few, new interesting characters.

My hat is off to Albert Lea, and Congrats on the win!!! Sounded like a great game between two great teams.

Albert Lea wins over Northfield by one goal.

Startribune.com says:
• Red Wing 6, Faribault/BA 5
If that's accurate, congrats to Faribo on the comeback, the last score I heard was 5-2 RW.

#1 RW
vs.
#4 AL

Red Wing 5 Faribault 3 RW 6 Fbo 4

Great job of proving me wrong Tigers. I got the winner and goal differential correct on the Red Wing/Fairbault game. Feathers were flying.

Predictions for the 1A final?

Red Wing 4(EN) - Albert Lea 2 I like Albert Lea for the Big 9 sentimentality. The also have 10+ goals from Leach, Click and Gacksetter. On the KTTC news last night I kept hearing Passingham's name. It would really be interesting if Christensen wasn't hurt. But I think Red Wing has more scoring potential starting with Alleva and then Haley, Wagner and Schammel can put it away too. If AL can keep the puck away from Alleva they have a chance. RW should have a mental edge due to their 2-1 OT win earlier this season.

Probably one of the better comebacks of the year. I think if there would have been another minute and with the surge Fblt had at the end they could have tied it up. But that is why you need to play the whole game like your running out of time. Both teams played awesome, but RW has more depth this year than Fblt. And by far better defense. Fblt defense handed RW the puck 3 times and they score on each turn over. Next year could be Fbo's year, I see they may be getting some help from some younger kids coming up.
As you can see, kids can play well in Varsity even at 7th and 8th grade, as RW girls can. Wagner is a good player but Alleva is the team.
Great game and hats off to RW...prediction
RW-7
AL -3
Albert Lea won't be able to handle Alleva, she will have a hat trick by the middle of the 2nd period.

Congrats to Red Wing. Last night was really the section championship. Red Wing should of been seated #1. Rose will be way too much for Albert lea to handle. I don't believe in these warmup games(a.k.a. playing waseca). I think it hurt us to play waseca at the beginning of the tourney. When you play teams like Waseca or Dodge county :D , it makes your team play down to their level. We started the game slow and sloppy, like a team that had just played a bad team. When we started playing Faribault hockey, we had to overcome a deficit against the number 1 seed. You will see these two teams,(Faribault & redwing), in many section championsips to come.

Congrats to albert lea, but I think everyone saw this coming. Northfield was in over their head. They played well at the start, but fell apart. Not quite the implosions we have have seen in the past (a.k.a. albert lea). This section championship would really be interesting if JC was still playing. Albert Lea will need a lot of things to go their way, to even make it close with Redwing, but you never know, RSI is now on their side. RSI follow the crowd, that is true leadership.

By the way, it was somewhat hard to watch the game last night. Some psycho in purple, almost blocked the entire rink. I could see 4 -5 weight watcher's commercials in this clown. :D

Falcon 89 you are a true class act, nice dig with Waseca and Doge comment in the same note and the big :D I hope you do not have a player on Faribault or she has your wife's genes as may Drive Steve crazy over there. I was going to commend you on your nice comment about the Red wing Game and being a good sport.but you showed your true colors by now ripping on parents from Red Wing CLASS ACT.....Good Luck Next Season....

Falcons89,
What a joke of a description of last nights game. Everything you say always is an attempt at a dig on others............EVERYTIME!!! I can't tell you how nice it is that your team lost (nothing against the girls at all, only you). The majority of the folks in here seem respectable....................and then there's YOU. Try to show some class (even if you have to fake it) the next time you post, which likely won't be until next year.

RSI, hopefully you did not get run over by the bandwagon. Congrats on the win, however I believe that R.W. will roll over A.L. on Sat.

I am joining the Rose fan club. She has a very nice way of controlling the game. It doesn't hurt that she in on the ice 9/10 of the game. She single handily beat fbo last night. Congrats to R.W. I knew it would be a close game and they are a good team.

I am proud of the FBO girls for not rolling over and playing dead after that 5 min stretch in the 2nd. Bergland had a breakaway with the goalie beat and caught the crossbar if that goes in, it would have made it 6-5 with plenty of time left in the game. But that's the way the puck bounces.

Good luck RW and we will see you in the Finals next year.

As always GO GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take it you were surprised by that. I would have expected every fan and/or coach to be fully prepared for a huge dosage of #11. What exactly were you expecting?

As for the bandwagon... I said I would be first in line to sing the praises of the coaching staff, so here I am.
Congrats to Coach Blatti he has AL playing at a very high level right now. =D> =D> I have no idea what he's done differently but the girls are very consistent right now. Like he said in the paper "timing is everything." Back in January, when the only thing consistent about AL was that they were consistently inconsistent  it took RW a 5 on 3 at the end of regulation AND a power play in overtime to beat AL 2-1. AL is a different team right now  Their past 5-6 games have been downright impressive, including that 5-1 victory against Faribo. Say what you want, but AL is rolling right now.

Hey, stop picking on Falcons & Friend! I totally agree that it's Waseca's fault that Faribault lost (note the sarcasm). The section championship is Saturday, not last night. Falcons, you have to remember that it's weak teams like Waseca that help make your team look so good. Take Bergland for example, she's a great player (sincerely, she is a very good player), but 41 of her 63 points (all you have to do is check the website, don't give me the 'insider' lecture) came against six different teams (in ten games) that had a combined winning percentage of .250. You've got a good team and should be better in the future years. Season's over. Quit blaming and slamming other teams. But, like you'd listen to anything I say :)

P.S. Not from AL. Do not know their coach. Did not get the last forum locked out. Any other crazy conspiracies????

I Will jump on the AL bandwagon..
These Girls are on a roll :) congrats on making it to the finals!!!!!!

So can someone tell me if this is correct.. What I am seeing from post's is that this next game (aka. which is the finals) Is going to be AL vs. Rosie?
Or is it AL vs. RW?
I'm a little confused... isn't this a team sport? so if RW only has "One Player" doesn't that go to show that AL is the better team since the entire team is strong??

I'm going with AL over Rosie by 3 points :D
Recap, RW beat FBO by 1, AL beat FBO by 4, and AL lost to RW in OT short handed.

Anyone else have any insight?

GO TIGERS! :D

A Rose is a rose
Amber Barrios, The Republican Eagle
Published Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Junior co-captain Rose Alleva has played a big part in helping the Wingers go from just five wins last season to 14 wins and the No. 2 seed in the section this season.

A big difference this year is she has “quite a bit more assists,” Red Wing coach Scott Haley said.

Alleva is the second leading defensive scorer in the state, according to the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association Web site. Alleva has 22 assists and 28 goals this season for a total of 50 points.

Rose Alleva helped Red Wing secure the No. 2 seed in the Section 1A tournament by leading the Wingers in ice time and points. She has 28 goals and 22 assists on the season.
Alleva, who has played varsity hockey since seventh grade, also excels in the classroom. She has been on the ‘A’ honor roll all through school.

She said she’s self-motivated to do well in academics and athletics, but added that the most inspirational people in her life are her brother, Josie, and he father, Bob.

It was Josie who got her interested in playing hockey, she said.

“I probably started skating at age 2 or 3, then shortly after playing hockey,” she said. “Our neighbors talked my dad into having my brother play hockey. Then my dad built a rink in our back yard, so I’d always watch my brother play and then I wanted to play.”

Due to head injuries sustained in a car accident in the summer of 2005, Josie can no longer play contact sports, but he still encourages his younger sister and helps her with her slap shot.

“He just motivates me then because he wants to play so bad,” Alleva said. “I guess I feel grateful because I can and he can’t.”

Being named co-captain along with fellow junior Jackie Friedrich is a responsibility that changed her perspective too. The two are the eldest team members, leading a group of primarily eighth- and ninth-graders along with four sophomores and two seventh-graders.

“I’m always used to being the younger person,” Alleva said, “and this year Jackie and I had to step it up in the leadership roles, which was really difficult because you don’t know what to do because you’re usually the one causing the trouble.

“You just have to step in when there’s a small fight or argument. ... You have to get the team pumped up for a game.”

Haley said the junior has done an excellent job of leading by example.

“She logs more ice time than probably any other player in the state,” he said. “She’s got a lot of responsibility ... A lot of times she’s out there to shut down the other team’s top players and yet she also leads the team in scoring.”

During the offseason, Alleva participates in two different programs - she’s involved in the Community Olympic Development Program and she plays for the Minnesota IceCats teams.

“I’ve been in the (IceCats) since U12,” Alleva said. “I think it helped me a lot, especially with my skating and stuff.”

Despite all her personal accomplishments, Haley said the most gratifying thing for Alleva is the success of the whole team.

“I know she takes more pride in that than she does in her own individual accomplishments,” he said. “Probably one of the most impressive things about Rose is she’s probably one of the most humble kids you’ll meet.”

Rose is a very, very talented player! However, there are other girls on the RW team that have contributed to the success and the wins of that TEAM!

If you have ever been to one or two or even three of RW's games, you will see that Rose is ALWAYS being covered by a defender, but it isn't usually just ONE...it has been two or three at times. Rose, being the skilled player she is, can most likely get out of those situations and skate, shoot & score. However, during those times when she cannot, she leans on & counts on her other team mates, such as Wagner, Schammel, Sigler, and others to do their jobs (which they know quite well) to get the results that they want.

RW is a solid team, with a great coaching staff and excellent talent. For people to say that it is a one-person show is ridiculous and insulting to the girls that work & sweat their butts off in practice and putt their heart & souls into that game! No one will ever undermine Rose's ability and marvelous skill. However, above and beyond that, she is a fantastic person on the inside. Her team means so much to her and she would be the first one to tell you that it is a TEAM EFFORT!

RW deserves every bit of recognition that they get....because as a TEAM they have worked hard; stayed loyal to their teammates, especially in a time of crisis; they have shown even adults what "family" truly is; and also because they are a bunch of girls who have their hearts and souls in this game...EVERY ONE of them!

So, next time any ONE of you think that is is a ONE person show...please think again! It will never be a "ONE PERSON SHOW" to any member of that team, ever again, especially after what they went through this year!

RW HAS talent...and lots of it!

mom2galwinger,
Please note that most, if not all, the comments about RW being "a one-person show" are from the team(s) who have been defeated by RW. Some of those folks aren't exactly gracious in defeat. Sometimes you have to consider the source
