Well, judging by the results, it looks like EGF couldn't ward off TRF. Must have been a great effort on TRF's part. For anyone that was there, what is your take on the Game? Also, will TRF be able to take down Duluth Denfeld on Friday after this huge win tonight? Does EGF still have what it takes to defeat Red River on Thursday for their last meeting? Interesting results tonight. :)

EGF vs TRF

Post by RRubberbeeskit »

Deke Dangler, your observations prior to tonights game appear to be very credible. Especially after tonights outcome. I have no dog in the fight but am quite amused at the apparent accuracy of your observations relating to EGF. Will we see changes at EGF that will enhance there ability to succeed and make that final run to a section championship or will things just stay the same?
Can you be specific in what they need to do differently in order to be at the X

This team lost their first game of the season on January 17, almost 2 full months into the season and people seem to be writing EGF off. Seriously people! The juniors and sophomores on the JV can use the year to mature both their game and their bodies, they still have 1 to 2 years ahead of them to play varsity.
As long as you are here, SWAMI,
give us a prediction on the game.
TRF JV 1
EGF JV 6

After the game, tell me who you thought EGF should move up to the varsity and why.

I gave a decent prediction, nailed the TRF output. The outcome here may add some fuel to the fire for Deke and Duster so I am interested to hear there observations and who they think from the JV squad could have helped the varsity group last night?

RRubberbeeskit: I appreciate your comment. The response is a little complicated to explain.

I have been quite interested in the development of the EGF program for a while. Living any where near EGF, It’s not hard to miss all the talk about how this group has been groomed since they were little shavers? It’s not so much the fact that they have been groomed(all programs do), but more interesting is the individulas that have had an influence(external influences) upon the grooming(since they were little shavers). External influences can be good, but they can also have a down side.

I don’t think the right changes will be made. There appears to be to much invested in certain individuals and change is not an option because of repercussions or hurt feelings. To many people have their hands in the Greenwave cookie jar. You definitely don’t want to bite the hands that feed(or fed) you. Maybe it could be as simple as egos getting the best of the coaches. I hope for them that there can be change. It’s sad for any team to fall short of their full potential. I said TRF would be a test and that it was. Red River is on the schedule next and that one could be ugly too. EGF is up 2 on the series with the next one being the last. I’ll be sure to follow that one.

Recommended changes:
-Certain Varsity players need bench time and quit being pampered for mistakes.
-They need to run more than just two lines. Playing the third line D only twice in a period is not enough. Forwards could use a rest as well.
-Some of the D need to settle down and quit running the table and getting caught.
-Forwards need a more straight forward attack in the zone and quit hugging the boards.
-Wasted time moving the puck around on the power play and not generating enough shots.
-Yes, once again, JV. There are some JV players(forward and D) that are able to contribute and could benifit from Varsity time. Another benifit, is that it will let Varsity players know that they could very easily be replaced if they don’t produce. Nothing like a little competition for a position to fire you up.

And no, I will not mention names of players that could be moved up. It could work out in their favor to be mentioned, but it could also have ill effects. I feel bad that I refered to Tweten in a prior post. It was in good tast and positive, highlighting an outstanding effort on his part, but wrong by my standards.

I believe the kids have the skill set to punch a ticket to the X. It will be coaching, or the lack of, that makes that final determination. I believe it boils down to proper management of the players that is equal and fair. A strong and successful team is usually one that everyone loves the coach or everyone hates him. The vibe coming through the tubes is that there are mixed emotions because of preferential treatment and the apparent disregard for the JV team. Who will fill the Varsity gaps next year?
