edina dominated
tonka got lucky to leave with a tie. they were completely out played in the third. tonka's goalie kept them in the game. edina should have won that game 6-3.
Who is lucky?
I watched Benilde completely outplay Edina during the Schwans Cup and Edina won the game. The Hornets goalie kept Edina in that game for stretches. So who is lucky? Or, who just got it done when it counted?
There were plenty of chances on both sides last night. Edina had the flurry in the third where the goalie came up big, but Tonka carried the play in the second. What impressed me most about Edina is that they did not look tired in the third period or the overtime. They looked tired in the second but Tonka may have had something to do with that. The "three games in three nights" talk didn't look like much of a factor at least.
I still think Edina is the deeper of the two teams - see my earlier prediction of 6-3. But when teams play that hard and tie - luck has little to do with it.

edina played well and i don't believe the three games in three nights because they did it in the Schwan Cup and possibly once before.
Also BSM99, i don't know if you watched the same BSM vs. Edina game i did. Edina clearly outskated and out hit BSM, they also kept there emotions in check and played harder than BSM, it was not a lucky win for Edina, the better team won and played the whole game better than BSM. Also a 3-1 win is a little different than a 3-3 tie.

Lucky Win?

Not sure about the tie/win thing - I'm well aware that winning is better than tying!
I never said that Edina was lucky to beat Benilde. I was responding to another post that claimed that Tonka's tie was lucky. I was at the Edina/Tonka game and luck had nothing to do with the outcome.
Yes, I was at the BSM/Edina game; and I believe that Benilde clearly carried the play for the first two periods - but Benilde did not finish; if they had, the result would have been different.
Edina took over the third period -but they didn't take control until the final period - they deserved to win.

About the tie/win thing, I was saying that it is alot easier for a team to get lucky and tie, than to get lucky and win considering that when an opponent is losing, they are going to be more agressive, than when they are tied. I know Edina was disapointed with the tie, but they would be much more angry, if they made a stupid mistake trying to win and ended up losing.
In regards to the BSM/Edina game, Edina took over offensively in the third period, Edina dominated on the defensive end, with maybe a few exceptions to Edina's third line. I also thought they played better in the nuetral zone and they clearly hit more and were more agressive. They also took Chris Student, BSM's key player out of the game, while Matt Reber and Joe Gleason, played really well, and contributed on all ends of the ice.
I thought Chris Student got rattled with Edina's physical play toward him, and he lost control of his emotions and couldn't play his game, so he resorted to playing Edina's game and didn't do very well trying to do that.

I think I now know what you're saying about ties! I'm not sure that I agree but I'll have to give it some thought!
I'm sure that Tonka was happier with the tie than Edina considering that Edina hadn't had a blemish on its record in about three months! And anytime that that you can take a point out of Braemar (especially when the Hornets are good) is a probably a good thing.
(I doubt that Tonka was very happy about tying after taking a late lead, however!)
Completely agree on how Edina neutralized Student. He's the key to the team - as are the rest of the Red Knights defense. BUT I would disagree that Edina controlled the play the whole game as others have suggested.
I still believe that Benilde and Edina are the top teams in this section - but Tonka, Chaska, and Eden Prairie are capable of knocking either out come section time. That's why it's a great section.

In the overtime, Minnetonka held the puck in their own end and played very conservative. They had no risky breakouts, and struggled to get to Edina's zone. It looked like they wanted to get out of the game with a tie during the overtime, although I'm sure they are kicking themselves for the way they gave up that late goal.
I thought that in the Edina vs. Benilde game, Edina controlled their defensive zone very well and BSM was going to have a hard time scoring. They also were very good in the turnover department. I'm not suggesting that Edina controlled the whole game, I'm just saying that if a team controls its defensive zone and limits their turnovers, they can keep the game very tight until the offense comes around either on a few breaks and odd-man rushes or by taking control of the offensive zone.
Other than those two points, I agree with what you said.
