Gaffke is a cheap player, there is no argument there. But I don't think as a whole the Otters are a cheap team. They do play hard and they hit w/ the best of them. Brian Rodning is an incredibly fun player to watch as he flys around the ice and is lighting people up left and right. Derek Smith is another player who is a human wrecking ball.

Torin Gaffke should have been ejected from the game, I didn't think the Spearl hit was that bad, but if he chipped his tooth and got a bloody nose I think otherwise. But Gaffke should not only have been ejected, but I'm surprised he hasn't been booted from the team. He was suspended earlier in the year for attitude problems, but this has really got to stop because he will SERIOUSLY injure somebody if he keeps this up.

It isn't good to have a player like Gaffke on your team, I do enjoy watch Fergus take the body. Something Little Falls needs to do a little more often.

gaffke

I think Gaffke has got a thing for goalies because he put hemingway in a headlock in the alex fergus game. But fergus does play the body well, things that can help them win a game or also lose a game. works for and against them

IMO, hitting is fine and good and all if it is done to make a play and not just for the love of hitting. It should be done with the intent of doing something other than just hurting another player or a random hit because a player likes to do it. Maybe I'm just a wousy.

I think that outside of Gaffke, the Otters do hit for a purpose. It may not always be to improve their situation on that particular play, but If you keep hitting someone, eventually they're going to not want to go into the corner. It will allow your team to have more space to work. I really don't see the otters, once again outside of gaffke, as a cheap team looking to injure somebody.

Cleensweep, you call Derek Smith a wrecking ball? I`d say more like a train wreck that derails the team. I believe that kid has lost more games for that team than any other player ever with all his dumb ass penalties.

Very very true, growing up FF players play against teams like Roseau, Moorhead, Warroad, Bemidji, etc...Personally, I think it's an advantage.

Once again, I said that Hanowski is a very very good player, great even.

That being said, the Little Falls Flyers, from squirts all the way up to HS play the same way. In the defensive zone, once they get the puck the fly a guy and go for the big play time and time again. It works, they win games, great. It's the same thing in college football w/ the spread offensive in teams like Hawaii this past year. It allows for high scoring games and is the ONLY reason why I have made this point at all. In another offense Hanowski would still have good numbers, just not as good as they are right now, hence, they are a bit inflated. That's the only reason why I say he is overrated. People look at his numbers and say he is wayne gretzky reincarnate. Just because you may be overrated doesn't mean you aren't a good player and it's no fault of his own.
Cleansheet01...Ben played for Team USA in a U17 International Tounament...scored several goals and had several assists...so I think your a little out of your element trying to analyze his game... and therefore suggest you quit digging a deeper hole for yourself.

Cody is also a great player...BTW..the two of them played on a line together (along with Josh Gross of Maple Grove) on the Jr. Gophers 1990 AAA team that won the MN Meltdown Invite Tournament in 2005 8)

I know that Ben played well in that tournament. He would've had higher stats still if in that tourney if that team played the same style as LF. You cannot tell me that he would have the same numbers if he played on a different team w/ a different style. He would still have very above average statistics. They just wouldn't be this high. That's all I'm saying.

Them Hano boys from Little Falls do have high stats because of the style they play, but it is likely because of them that Little Falls plays that style. No one can argue, I mean, Fergus Falls wouldn't have lost to Little Falls if it weren't for the rapid fire goals they score especially short handed from these speedsters.
This said, what has the high flying Flyers done at state???? They won a few, but with this kind of offense how don't they compete for a championship??? This is how: relying on two players to have breakaways to score shorthanded goals. A good team will catch on and equalize this threat, at that point it does the Flyers no good at all to constantly play such an unconventional game. The season is not all about how many wins you get, yes a conference championship is great but if you know that you are the odds on favorite to take the section, you have won it 3 years running but have never won a championship, shouldn't you use your regular season as a little bit of a conditioning for what you may run into at state???ie: spreading around the scoring, playing solid defense, Little Falls gives up some goals......etc.....just a thought, good luck to all.................

Thank you, someone finally get's it.

The reason the otters don't play that style is because they don't have the players to succeed in that style. Cody Peck: A dangler, a physical player, a solid defender, not a burner. FF just doesn't have the speed to take advantage of it.

And likely wouldn't anyway, not their style. Josh Anderson or Ryan Miller, they weren't too slow, what they did is developed a play and caught up with their teamates, knowing good and well that they were just as important defensively as scoreing.......

All teams and coaches have a different style of play. It is the way it is but as you can see with Roseau tough D wins championships. I really do wish Little Falls would play a more defensive game and I wish they would develop better defensemen but thats not their style it never has been. :( Remember Fergus didn't have much success at the tourney in the years they made it either, with their style of play. Take a look at the single A records FF holds the most losses and most goals against. So Fergus' worthless style of play doesn't get them much farther.

The difference is this: 7 state tournement apearances for Fergus Falls, 7 postseasons of over achievements, 3 state tournement appearances for Little Falls, 3 post seasons of at very best average hockey.........look at your numbers (ie: season records) they tell it all. ..........

Defense - Nice to see you've got your rose colored glasses on today. By what gauge do measure the Otters post season play as "over achieving" and label the Flyers as "average"? Both clubs hail from Section 4A (now 6A) and, let's face it, the entrant to state from that section is fortunate to win any games at the Big Show. The Flyers use the talent they have the best way they see fit - if you have average goaltending and defense, you better hope you can score more than your opponents. Granted they(as well as Fergus) have not had much success in the tourney, but I would say that has more to do with the competition than their style of play.
