The title of this thread ought to be: 'Bring back the public school tournament. "

Cuz we private school folks own this one. Just like 2006.

They can't do a Private only tournament. The reason for a two class tournament is to give an equal opportunity to smaller schools. Just because a school is private doesn't mean they should automatically be moved to AA, look at schools like St. Croix Lutheran, St. Bernards, St. Agnes, who dont have enough players to make a team so they co-op to make the St. Paul Saints. or like Minnehaha Academy. Forcing them to play in an all Private tournament with teams like Hill Murray, St. Thomas, Duluth Marshall, and Benilde would ruin any chance these teams have of making it to State. Besides with out any private schools, who would Section 206 chant against every tournament?

Sure lets kick all the private schools out, weaken several sections and get rid of 30 year rivalries. It is fun to beat private schools and if this is not an option it will make the tournament boring. Like it or not, many good hockey players will continue to opt for private educations.

someone finally took the bait. shattuck plays by a different set of rules, as do the privates and neither have a place in a minnesota [district dictated ] tournament . put all the privates in their own league and end this farce.it would not weaken the game but make it stronger . furne stays at tartan and they are better. cheka stays at woodbury and maybe they win it all . rescob stays at hastings and maybe they are not a total mess. mattson plays for mpls west and maybe they win two more games ect.put them in their own league ,or let them draw only from their own district ,or from a limited area[the last two were reviewed by the mshl as part of the new rule changes ,but they afraid to act] and believe me the interest in the manufacture of fraudulent little super powers will end.

Other than Shattack all of the private schools play by the same set of rules. If they didn't they wouldn't be allowed to be a member of the MSHSL.

so you have a problem with the young men who want to go to a school to get a better education while playing hockey? i dont understand why people dont just let things be how they are. its 15,16,17,18 year old kids you are trying to hurt here. let them be at the school they are at

I don't doubt that kids go to private schools just for hockey. I'd like to know how many Hill, AHA, Benilde, etc. players are not even catholic? But unless someone has some real evidence of the "R" word going on, shouldnt we be ripping the parents who send their kids there JUST for hockey? And not the Administration/coaches of the schools.

Another question is how many non-Catholic, non-sport playing students are in each school? Perhaps parents sometimes send their kids to private schools for an education?

I would also like to know how many kids play for a different public scholl than they 'should' do to open enrollment? Are all Edina/Tonka/Woodbury... kids homegrown or have they chosen to go to a different school for an academic or athletic program?

the privates draw with few exceptions [if any] from out of their districts . is there a kid on aha from richfield ? of course not . is there an out of town kid playing for edina ? not on your life. if these kids are all about a lust for higher learning tell them they can go to the school of their choice but they must play sports in their hometown. i would bet all these budding bookworms would find the public school system a virtual ivy league of opportunity .

i think the record numbers this year for that semi final matchups speaks volumes. the masses want the tension of some public and some private elite teams playing it out. its drama and tension and creates discussion but face it most everybody deep down really desires exactly that....just do a bit of soul searching and relize you do to....

we all like great hockey ,but a hornet ram final would hardly be a let down. also i feel bad for the towns that lose the lion's share of their top talent and the towns in a conferance like the classic sub who have to look forward to four annual butt woopins.but congrats to the winners.but i still think to be fair, things schould change.

Putting privates in their own class would cause riots on the streets. It's not like they have dominated the tournament year in and year out, just look at the facts, over twice as many public schools have won the tournament in the last 20 years. But I have to agree that private schools do take talent away from the public schools. I think 75% of Benildes goals were scored by kids from Wayzata, and noticing there dismal record they could have used those players. But on the contrary, maybe the public schools need to get kids more excited to play for there programs. IMO there is no problem, had Edina won the tourney this topic wouldn't have come up. I think the debate will never end, but I also think things will never change.

i dont exactly understand why people are complaining about the privates

if you take the final top 15 (PS2)

only 3 of them are private schools....

what do you people have against private schools? because people have to pay to go there? i thought it was about the kids, not developing kids to win state for YOUR community. grow up. if you feel used offer them something better and maybe they'll stay. And is it so bad if a kid who has been going to a private school his whole life and suprise suprise, goes to a private high school but played youth for his community, tell me where else he could play? Public or private, none are better than the other its just different get over it bunch of public school babies im sick of it. and the facts are public schools win it a hell of a lot more than privates so the argument is just silly
