Bring Back Private School State Tournament?

Post by iseepalms »

It's past time bring it back. Private schools have no boundaries.

I can hear the cheers comming from the student sections in an all-private Tourney. AHA fans, "Martha's Vineyard"...BSM fans, "Napa Valley". It just doesn't have they same feel. Public schools & private schools need each other. :)

As long as they shut down open enrollment then I'm fine with private school tournaments.

Last year's EP girls team was filled with 3-4 Bloomington Kennedy players, good ones like Stoa. How is that any different then a private school taking kids from other communities?

Even though I don't like the privates, you gotta keep em it keeps the "public vs. private" rivalry around.

Keep the Private Clubs around it makes for great spirited hockey since the split to A and AA. There is a long list of great games.

I use to watch the Catholic tournament at Aldrich. Those tournaments use to be more spirited than at the Excel Center.

you cant do that to the kids who decide to go to a private school because most choose for the school part of it not hockey

Exactly. Besides, who would you cheer against every year? It would be like watching an episode of Batman without the Joker.

Oh, ah sorry, I get confused with all of these tournaments.

But you can bank on an all Catholic final in both classes Mr BIAFP.

For all of you publikers, it will be like Purgatory.

Ah, RoDeoh, they are all private associations. Are you a member of one?

Why does everybody get down on the teams for the rules they have to play under?

I read the Trib article on STA- it should have been on the editorial page. STA does not opt down, they play in the class they were assigned. Some schools choose to opt up; they don’t.

From ‘75-‘87 tourneys there was exactly 1 private school to make it to the tournament and they won the title once. Where were the calls to change things so more private schools could participate then?

Tier 1-2 was created to allow more schools in. The first year Rosemount made it to the finals with a 6-20-1 record, but not exactly the schools the powers-that-be were looking for. So along comes Class A. In its twelve years, private schools have 5 titles, Warroad has 4, everybody else 3. This year will be a private or Warroad…

There are four ways to solve this:

A-Bring back the ONE TRUE TOURNAMENT, title held by Hill-Murray.
B-Leave things as is but put all privates in AA. (Permanently engrave Warroad on to the trophy.)
C-Leave as is and do not allow any opting up, down, sideways or inside out. (With HM, BSM, CDH, HA in the class it will be almost a private school tournament.)
D-Make hockey look like basketball. (St Francis, Worthington and Minneapolis will thank you.)

Or… Leave everything just like it is, enjoy the games, gripe about private school advantages and let Cambridge play in against St. Francis for the right to meet Duluth East, River Lakes play Roseau and Cooper meet Minnetonka in the sections where we don’t have to evaluate how ‘equal’ class AA is.
BTW '88-'07 Public champions 26, private 10 all classes combined.

What in the world does me moving from one public school district to another have to do with your lame public/private thread that' been done 8,000 times before? I went to public school, so will my kids, and you won't hear any of us whining about how we don't want to play against the private schools. Grow a pair, missy.
