...and moreover, unless you're planning a future career IN hockey (and there aren't a ton of them for women) there's a good argument for D3 schools as well. Sure, there's no ATHLETIC scholarships at those schools, but if you have a mid-range hockey but top-range academic daughter, they seem to be able to knock quite a bit off that tuition, and sometimes provide a very nice work study program. A great Minnesota private education for the price of (or less than) a Private HS education plus they do need to fill those teams out (I knew I liked Title IX) and if it's a coin flip admission decision between a regular straight-A kid and a straight-A kid who can play on the Women's Hockey squad, it can't hurt.
So, yes, celebrate the D1 scholarships WHEREVER they are. What an awesome accomplishment for a young woman. But there are plenty of other possible rewards for all sorts of players.
