Edina Squirt A's
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
Lets just say. For the 2007-2008 hockey season. Edina Squirt A's are the best.
Sure other teams will get stronger as the years go by.
I think its important to note. Edina has so much talent in squirts they should have two squirt A teams this year. I'm not a part of the Edina program. But I've heard many people say the squirts are loaded with talent.
Does anyone know how the Edina Squirt B teams are doing?

I saw this team play (Edina A Squirts) they are very skilled, all I can say is wait until A PeeWees, they will not be able to do half of of the stuff that thet are getting away with now, checking with nutrilize them. Most of their goals in the game I saw them play was right at the edge of the goal crease. Enjoy it now.

PeeWee "A" is tough, however, most teams have (maybe) a few talented scorers at best and maybe only one, with the rest of the team being comprised of our good old Minnesota "grinder", "I love hockey" hockey player. This is Minnesota PWA hockey, and it is great! The problem these teams will have with Edina, is that they will be too deep. Sure they can hit these guys, but a team with 7-9 "skill" players will be awfully hard for any PWA team to contend with, condidering most PWA teams have just one scoring line, at best. Look at AV PWA this year. Where are they now? Eliminated by the deeper teams. This Edina team will adjust to the next level, and will be almost as good as a PWA team as they are now. I think they will be enjoying themseleves for a while.MoreCowBell wrote: wait until A PeeWees, they will not be able to do half of of the stuff that thet are getting away with now, checking with nutrilize them. thanks Hipper
Hiptzech, thanks for your views as well as an explanation of your biases. I find it odd that many think discussion of Squirt hockey isn't a suitable topic for a Minnesota Youth Hockey board.
I'm curious to hear how Eden Praire fares. I'm sure the kids on both sides are excited.

Just enjoy the ride. These kids may or may not be great peewees, bantams, highschoolers, D1ers or pros. People should enjoy their skill and not worry where it will end.
Edina is very deep, so you may have a 50% or more turnover as the years pass. However, enjoy the moment.
I still contend that the kids would be better served if they had two or three "A" teams since they do have great depth. There is not a big difference between the 10th or 30th skater, so the top skaters would not be hindered.

I think Chaska has 3 good lines, EP has 3 good lines. Av has only 2 lines period. 11 players on team. That is why its hard for them. Not because they only have 1 line. 3rd line fresh is better then a top line that is beat by the end of the game. Burnsville has 3 lines that can play with anyone. Edina will never go with 2 teams at A-level. They don't want 2 equal good teams they want 1 great team. District 6 is the best league in the state. Good hockey teams with the worst refs in any league. Survey any coach and they will rate D6 worst refs.
AV scores game winning goal and Ref has know idea if it went in or not. I don't know if it was a goal or not but, I know the ref that called it a goal wasn't in position to call it (Burnsville game). They had 1 ref show up to games instead of 2. They call checking from behind on a little bump and they call a rough when a kid needs to crawl back to bench after being hit from behind. Question for you Edina lovers is every kid from this years PWA are they all from Edina Squirt A teams. Every kid will grow differently and if the same 15 kids that are tearing it up at Squirts repeats as the same for PWA then the board needs to look at the fact it isn't developing all the kids at different levels and Edina board members need really look at whats best for all the kids not just 15 of the 100's of kids that tryout.

I agree with your D6 comments, great league, mostly poor officiating. Burnsville lost 6 of their last 8, however, against good teams, but skating with and winning are different. I guess I mean 3 lines, where the 2 and 3 line can skate with the other teams 1st. That is what a team will need to compete with the current Edina SA when they are PWA. And teams with only one top line, (Burnsville and AV), can't win against a team like that very often. Not saying that these teams are not very good, Burnsville, AV, EP, Chaska, Woodbury, CR, ect. are all great teams, just that comments were regarding Edina SA, which will continue to be too deep to compete with in the future.I think Chaska has 3 good lines, EP has 3 good lines. There are 6 Squirt B teams in Edina. As of 2/18 and taking out the games they have played each other, the accumulated record of all six teams is (according to the EHA website):slasher wrote:I think its important to note. Does anyone know how the Edina Squirt B teams are doing?
108 wins
11 losses
7 ties
12 tournament championships
3 second place finishes
4 third place finishes
1 consolation championship
None of the six teams have finished a tournament lower than 3rd place or consolation champion. I think that's pretty impressive.
I also wonder why Edina doesn't have two Squirt A teams. Nor do they have any Squirt B1 teams. Although by their records it doesn't look like they need to have any B1 teams.

There is no B1 at the Squirt level. There is only A, B and C. B1 starts a PeeWee

Looking at the roster I would say there are 3 new skaters, PWA, that were not on the Edina SA two years ago.
I believe D6 doesn't have B1, B2 at the squirt level. I think D10, D3 have the B1, 2 levels for squirts.
Edina probably should have 2 squirt A this year. Why should Edina have to make equal teams. I'm sure making a second A team opens up all kinds of political BS like who would coach the team, etc, etc.
Just like the PWA this year, the gap with the super squirts will be filled.
I believe the current jr/sr HS kids won Fargo and Sarnia Atom A so as for being the greatest SA I doubt it.

Why is Edina keeping records and all game scores for Squirts? Isn't squirts about development? Doesn't MN Hockey discourage keep records for squirts? This is pathetic and arrogant. I imagine they have player stats somewhere as well for these 9 year olds.

really
True that District 6 doesn't keep standings, but you can look at the game results on the Edina website and see if they are winning or losing.32HockeyFan wrote:

Pathetic? I'd be surprised if there are teams that don't keep track.

Most of the Edina teams post their record on their website. If your on this site I'll bet you look for the record of non district teams you might see in a tournament. It's all part of the fun, speculation, nothing better to do, etc.,etc. I hate when associations don't post their records like it is super secret or something. I don't care if you don't post rosters and schedules, but post your record, part of the fun. Edina posts their records, I wouldn't call it keeping track of the squirts.

Hockeywizard, I don't think people are annointing them the best squirt team ever. I'm not from the Edina association. I have no loyalty to Edina.
I can tell you that this years Squirts are special. Edina's loaded at the squirt level. They have tons of depth.
I realize that people get sick of hearing about Edina. Lets face the facts. They are a strong association. I'm sick of hearing about Yankees, Lakers, Koby Bryant, Shaq, A-Rod, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Randy Moss ect....... Face the facts, What do all these people or teams have in comman? They're Good! They win!
Edina is a solid program with solid people. They develop the kids to become good hockey players. I tip my hat to the Edina association. Just like others someday I hope our team beats them.
