Vikings
I listened to Sunday's game on the radio (like most weekends).
I believe it was Joe Sensor, stating he is allowed to attend practice. According to Joe, the practices went great last week. The coaches had a plan that could work, the plyaers bought into it and practiced hard, but come game time did not implement what they had practiced.
He put the blame squarely on the players.

Is there some relationship between Sensor and Tice that a northern boy would not be aware of? Is what he is saying biased? Or are the players just that incompetent?

I will hang up and listen.

Re: Vikings
Joe is usually a straight up, tell it like it is, kind of guy.

There is no question that it isnt just a coaching issue. Maybe the talent is overrated a bit.

Tice cant remember the snap count for them. He cant catch the ball for them.

But as the old saying goes "we can't replace all of the players"

This team is 1-4 and and has been blown out in most of the losses. It isnt like they could be 3-2 but for a bounce of the ball. By all accounts it should be a significantly improved football team from last year. Instead, its in a free fall with no end in sight. Peopel are going to look to the head coach.

Re: Vikings
If the Packers pound the Vikings this weekend is Tice out now? Look for an interim.
Or will it be a year end thing and look for the best guy around?

What about Culpepper? Does he start? Does he get the hook after his first interception? second? Half-time? Fourth quarter?

Re: Vikings
The Vikes may have had a great week of practice last week , but they were practicing against other Vikings.

Tice won't pull Culpepper no matter what, did you read his quotes about him last game? He said his reads were good, his checks were good, and he played well. Maybe I watched a different game, the same one Senser was watching appearantly, because Culpepper stunk the place up inside the 20, and the whole second half. If their is one thing I find Tice guilty of more than anything else, it's sticking with Culpepper as he self destructs and takes what little chance the Vikes have down with him.

I heard on KFAN that he has a bonus tied to completion % and this is why he won't throw the ball away and takes the sack instead. If this is true and I were a lineman.......

OMG!!! The Vike's actually beat the Packers!
Much Love
-Cloquet

Re: Here is my Reply
How about the job Koren Robinson did returning kicks? He was so close to breaking 2 or 3 of them for TD's. The offense finally came alive in the 2nd half, overshadowing a terrible 2nd quarter.

Lastly, thank you Paul Edinger.
-------------------

Catholics have churches, fat people have Wisconsin, and I have the Pawtucket Patriot brewery.- Peter Griffin

toilet bowl champs
Yup, an epic struggle between two 1-4 teams bound for no where.

It takes the second longest game winning filed goal in the history of the world to beat a bad, injury riddled ,1-4 team at home.

Now we will hear all week about whether they can take this great win and use it to turn the season around. What a joke.

They will get killed this week. They will probably win a couple more home games and maybe finish with 5 wins.

Re: toilet bowl champs
You're right packerboy, the Vikes barely beat a team missing their top wide receiver and losing their 2nd best receiver and top RB in the course of the game. At home to boot. It was fun, but reality will club them in the head this week.

Five wins sounds about right, which means either the Lions or Bears will win the division, good god! I'll put my money on the Lions right now, they've got a decent defense and with Garcia they might finally have an NFL QB tossing the ball for them.

I have to qualify this by saying I really am a hardcore Viking fan, but Favre was fun to watch last week. The Packer fans' slobbering worship of the guy can get annoying, but he is a great player. I was definitely worried that he was going to engineer another classic end of the game victory for the Pack on Sunday.

Re: toilet bowl champs
If there was any hope of salvaging the season so it would be respectable, thats gone now with Culpeppers knee.

So, what do you guys make of the Michael Bennet situation? I am no talent scout but he clearly looks like the best back they have. Moore isnt nearly as athletic nor fast.

Is this because he had that bad game where he fumbled a couple times? Heck, they couldnt field a team if he benched everybody who screwed up.

What gives?

Re: toilet bowl champs
Bennett is probably the truest threat the Vikes have, but he can't block and on a team with an offensive line like this Bennett is just to much a liability to have in the backfield. Teams see him back there and they know the Vikes are going to run. Maybe they need to move him into a slot back or flanker position or something, but I can't see Johnson surviving long with Bennett picking up blitzes, heck Culpepper with all his size and mobility was in trouble back there.

Re: toilet bowl champs
Johnson will probably be hospitalised within a couple of weeks but it will be interesting to see if he can find people open when he does have time.

I agree Bennet cant block but to trade that off for a backup type like Mewelbe Moore.....I dont get it. Bennet did run for 1300 yards a couple of years ago(or did we dream that). When he got hurt , he was averaging 5 yards a pop.

Now he cant play? what is he ...25?

But this team is so screwed up....the Bennet thing fits right in.

Re: Bennet
Bennett's been in the doghouse for awhile, going back to last season. I think there were questions about his work ethic and toughness in coming back from injuries and the two fumbles against Cincy earlier this year got him planted more firmly onto the bench.

He does have the most talent of any of the backs on this team so you'd think the coaching staff would make an effort to get some production out of him but I think they've given up on him.

I thankfully missed Sunday's game but it sounds like Smoot got lit up, proving that if you're going to talk big you'd better back it up. The defense seems to have regressed from last year. It's looking this Viking team will be going down as one of the worst in team history.

It's pretty apparent thet Tice is reading our posts.

Why not give us a little credit on his TV show and in the paoer?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckerboy at: 11/7/05 8:53 am

Re: Bennet
packerboy, I'd prefer to have my name remain as far away from this Viking team as possible, Tice can take all the credit he wants

Another win at home against a mediocre opponent, with Brad Johnson proving you don't need great athleticism to be an NFL QB and Joey Harrington proving you DO need talent or brains or something for god's sake to play QB in the NFL.

Anyone want to take bets on how many TDs the Giants score next Sunday before the Vikings put some points on the board? Do I hear three? Johnson to the rescue
Well, its just like I said, the injury to Culpepepre will turn the season around for the Vikes

But seriously, it is intersting to see how the team does with an average QB who takes care of the football. It keeeps you in the game longer.

Just when I counted them out...
they leap back to life. Now that was a nice win on Sunday if a bit unconventional. The offense did nothing until it absolutely had to but as he did many times in his earlier run as Viking QB, Johnson came through in the clutch. I worry that he'll get hurt, he took some good hits on Sunday.

I think Daunte's problem is that he tries to do everything himself all at once. Maybe after watching Johnson this year, Daunte will learn something about being patient and taking what the defense gives you. There's no question that he's got a lot of talent but he won't have the mobility he did when he comes back so he'll need to play a more conventional style of QB.

Re: Just when I counted them out...
On one of the ESPN radio shows the other night they talked how good a QB Daunte is skill wise, but that he doesn't understand how to manage a game. Meaning to often he put up big numbers stat wise but left a less than average defense in bad positions. An example they cited was a game the Vikes had 32 points, but only 17 minutes of posession, the result was a bad defense had to be on the field to much and gave up 36 points. All to often the Vikes got into a situation where the last team to have the ball won, and bad clock and field management cost the Vikings games. Now through two games the Vikes have not gotten into shootouts, and been able to play a field position type game. The games aren't as exciting , but they turn out in the Vikings favor. Super Bowls, let alone Conference Championships, are won on the defensive side of the ball. As the Patriots have shown, a servicable defense put in good situations by their offense and special teams leads to the promised land, not high octane offenses that can score but can't manage the game.

Re: I agree
I agree completely goldy, it does seem that Daunte has not learned the subtle skills required to manage a game properly. This is an area in which Johnson has been very good since he became a starting QB with the Vikes back in, what was it, '97? This seems to be the part of the game that's hardest for QBs to master, if I recall even Favre had a bad couple of years before he figured things out.

Re: I agree
Well boys, Toilet Bowl II tonight.

Less than a year ago, the two teams were in a playoff battle. Neither has to worry about that this year.

Both teams have serious injury, personel, and coaching issues.

Both of these coaches may be gone next year.

But at least the Vikings now have a Code to live by.

Packers win 28-17.

Re: I agree
As far as Culpepper goes, he is a gifted player. But he struggles with taking care of the football. If his O line isnt doing the job, he tries to do it for them.....every play. The result is turnovers.
He is therefore not a good QB...yet.

But I dont buy the idea that scoring 32 points is no good if you dont use 30 minutes of the clock doing it. I cringe when I hear about how the offense leaves the defense on the field too long.
The defense controls how long they are on the field. The best control of that is ....get a 3 and out.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckerboy at: 11/22/05 11:17 am
