Minnesota Vikings

Post by Newguy99 »

Just starting a new topic about the vikes, what are everyone's thoughts? I'm sure Packerboy will say the Pack are the favorites to win the division but I think we all know the Vikes are the clear cut favorite.

I thought he was called Packerboy because of his connection to the South St Paul Packers rather than the grease bay packers?

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Lee is right.

I think the Vikings will go deep into the playoffs. I dont give them much chance at winning the Super Bowl or getting there. The main reason for that is the head coach. He would have to improve as much as the defense for them to win a championship.

They should win the division. Green Bay has , on paper, taken a step backwards personell wise and da Bears look good but not better than the Vikings. Ditto the Lions.

11-5 and losing in the NFC championship game.

Easy mistake to make

Post by packerboy »

No problem newguy. Those cheese heads are all around us so its a natural assumption.

Come to think of it..how did we let that happen.

We need more controls at the Hudson bridge to keep these cheese heads in Wisconsin. Same goes for up in Duluth and down in Stillwater and along the whole border.

I dont get it. If its so great there, why dont they just stay there a long with their goofy looking Packer leather jackets and Buckey Badger red sweatshirts.

Huh?

That's correct Packerboy you can always get a good laugh at the way most people from Wisconny dress. Also packerboy do you go to a lot of SSP boys hockey games?

Koren Robinson is a Viking!

Now, I know a lot of people won't be excited and bring up his alcohol troubles. But there was a reason he was a top 10 pick. If he can turn his life around (and I think he can), he will be a great pickup for the Vikes.

And yes, that is where I got my name (koren80 .
-------------------

Who is the orca? I dont know that much about this guy but hasnt he had all kinds of chemical abuse issues? Do we need that?

Didnt we trade Moss to get rid of baggage. Now we add this on.

Haven't we learned anything from the NE Patriots?

I hope this kid gets straightened around but let him do that first and then lets see.

We have enough people at that position anyway.

I dont like it.

Can never have too much depth.

I think he is a good addition, can always release him if he becomes a problem. Depth

Post by packerboy »

Maybe this guy will work out but Id rather see them get a kicker than another wide receiver.

You can never have enough depth but there is only one ball. This Taylor guy was a good pick up, they have their #1 daft choice at that position with a potential all pro and a solid vetern returning.....how are they going to keep everyone involved?

Maybe they will play 5 WRs at a time. (can you?)

And hey, why waste time looking for a punter...just dont punt.

I think we should switch to a total spread O. Don't play a RB, Culpepper can be our running game. Run end arounds or option plays here and there, but otherwise stay with the 5 wide set the whole game. Culpepper will have to learn how to throw left handed because his arm will get exhausted, but eventually he'll get the hang of it.
Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

use of emoticons

Post by packerboy »

You cant communicate without emoticons. Not in this day and age. As I have said before, I use them constantly in my ever day life.

I have a little bag that is loaded with them that I carry around with me so if I am talking to someone I dont know very well, I can pull one out to make sure they know I am only kidding.

I think football coaches should use them more. So, when Tice pulls someone out of the stands to play OT, he can flash an emoticon to everyone.

Nice way to start the season. Seven turnovers. And I cut short my morning bicycle ride to get home and see this.....debacle.

Quick question; if the Vikes don't reach the playoffs this year, do you can Tice? It was obvious to me from the start that he was kept around because he was easy on Red's pocketbook. Will Ziggy be so forgiving?

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Daunte, what a game.

About the Tice deal -- he has the ability to be a good coach but he's to easy on guys like his QB Daunte, who turned the ball over today as much as I have posted on here in my lifetime (ok, maybe not that much). I say if we don't make the playoffs, then there should be some serious thinking about Tice's status.

Get rid of Tice. He is not the guy to lead this team. I want Cottrell to be the head coach.

Also not a bad debut for Sharper. Our best player today.

And we may have found a punter in Chris Kluwe. His first punt EVER in the NFL went 62 yards. Not bad.
-------------------

Who is the orca? Who is the octopus? Say, have you guys heard...its now Dantes team. Now , if he could only make it his ball.

But how about that offensive line? The rookie was everything Tice said he would be and more.

Well, the team goes out and makes some great moves personel wise on the defensive side.

But oops, oh thats right, we need to have an offensive line too.

Just cant seem to put together a whole team.

The head coach wouldnt know what to do with it if they did. 8-8.

The only consolation from yesterday's game is that we're not Bears fans and thus didn't have to sit through yesterday's Bears-Redskins game. The only reason the Vikes have a shot at the division this year is because the rest of the NFC North looks awful.

Tampa's got a good D, but I haven't seen a Viking offense perform so putridly since the Les Steckel days. You'd think a guy who used to coach the offensive line would be able to put together a group that could give Daunte some protection or open even a tiny hole for the RBs.

The kicking game looked markedly better and Darren Sharper had a great game, but I'd be grasping at straws to come up with any other positives. Yes, the defense looked better but it's not like they were facing Peyton Manning or anything.

Purple pride

Post by packerboy »

It is truly remarkable that this franchise enjoys the position that it does in the hearts and minds of Minnesotans.

I cant figure it out. Is it still a result of the Bud Grant years? Was losing 4 Super Bowls that much fun that we just cant get enough of the Vikings?

They had some good years in the late 80s with the Millard, Dolemen, Browner, Anthony and Chris Carter group. But they lost in the NFC champonship game.

There was 1998 and the Denny Green teams but they couldnt get to the Super Bowl either.

What is the infatuation?

Tice is not going to get them there. Some of the problems yesterday were due to the offensive line but its still the same old delay of game and burning TOs because we cant get a bleeping play in. I mean, I watch a fair amount of high school football and my kid plays on a 9th grade team....they dont do that. What is the deal?

And of course the penalties. 2 TDs called back by penaltys. Sure, you can whine all you like about the "phantom" interfernce on the tight end. But he stuck his hand out and you are just begging for a call to go against you when you do that.

A lot of this is coaching. Its the same old stuff over and over and over again.

Anyway, we might be better off if we were less loyal to these guys. I was encouraged by the booing I heard Sunday. The next step is to not show up.
