Richfield @ St Thomas Academy 2-8-07
The (12-8; 13-8 by then) Richfield Spartans travel to Mendota Heights to play the (16-4-2) Cadets of St Thomas Academy on Thursday, February 8th at 7:30PM. The Cadets shut them out last time they met in Richfield 3-0, but since then Richfield's top Goalie has come back and brought them to a 2-3 OT loss to Hill Murray. St Thomas is on a 6 game win streak and Richfield is 8-1 in their last 9 games.
Who comes out on top and why?

Woowww, AHA squeaks by NP
Things must be rough after that tumble with NP.....Zamman wrote:Last year at STA Richfield lost in OT, and that was with Schroeder.....
This year, Richfield is playing a little better I think and with Guggs in net I feel they can win. It will be tough, but I am looking for a 4 - 2 win for Richfield.
Explain how Richfield will score 4 goals at STA after losing 3-0 at Richfield arena and being outshot 45-12?
With Shroeder they had five losses at this point last year... Worry about your Angels who are destined for another early exit..........
Guggs loses his cool, and game in this one. What worked for C. Wood might work for the G-Man. 3-0 STA

Does anyone else on this board feel that I cannot worry about anyother team than AHA?ocanadaourhome wrote:Things must be rough after that tumble with NP.....Zamman wrote:Last year at STA Richfield lost in OT, and that was with Schroeder.....

Seems to me this was a topic about Richfield and STA, not my Angels.....
I believe that I can post about Richfield also.
Richfield is playing much better and 4 is just a number, maybe I will change it 3 - 1....

Well, considering your kids go to Richfield and you work at the rink where both teams play, I think it's fair game.
Personally, I think the numbers are against Richfield. With Guggs in net, it should be a close game. But as I've said before, having a good goalie doesn't put the puck in the net. On the other hand, they scored two at home against Hill. Should be good. Wish I could be there.
When Richfield is close (winning or losing) people will see they should be the #2 or #3 seed.

I also live in Richfield and have for the last 15 years.....HShockeywatcher wrote:Well, considering your kids go to Richfield and you work at the rink where both teams play, I think it's fair game.

You can say as much as you want about losing players (and yes, if St Thomas had the two players who are still in high school who were on the team last year they'd probably be hands down the best team in Class A, maybe a top team in state, but they don't) but that won't cause them to lose to Richfield to beat them by 4. This is be a battle between Guggs and Crandall.
You should listen to what you just said, good advice.ocanadaourhome wrote:When will the youth of today learn that crack kills.....Johnny_Murphy wrote:Da Spartans-5

It's a shame you had to enlighten the board with your unparalleled hockey knowledge, everybody just got dumber from reading your posts. I love it how you feel the need to bash an extremely good AHA team just because your team is playing sub par. I also love it how BEATING a VERY GOOD New Prague team without your best player (Taylor Matson), another very good forward (Britton Smith), and a top 4 defensman (Randy Cure) is "taking a tumble," but for some reason you do not bring up LOSING to Brainerd.Things must be rough after that tumble with NP.....

Hey genius, one more thing. Richfield proved they can play with the big boys... they just took HM to overtime, and you're dreaming if you think St. Thomas is better than Hill. Richfield is a whole new team, and your going to get an awfully big surprise if you think the Cadets are going to walk over the Spartans.
Third times a charm.

We will know soon enough about your Richfield and Hill Predictions and my excessive dreaming by the end of this weekend.stars612 wrote:You should listen to what you just said, good advice.ocanadaourhome wrote:When will the youth of today learn that crack kills.....Johnny_Murphy wrote:Da Spartans-5

Your grammar notwithstanding, if it comes down to such a battle, with each team getting roughly an equal number of quality chances, Richfield will win.HShockeywatcher wrote: This is be a battle between Guggs and Crandall.
It's more likely, however, that the vastly superior team, STA, will get 20 more shots than Richfield and win despite the goaltending disparity.

Wow. I'm embarrassed. Don't ya love it when you think two things and type parts of both in the same sentence?
Well, that was my point originally, St Thomas out shot Richfield just about 4:1. Having a better goalie will make less of the many more shots go in, but it won't make your offense score more. People keep putting up scores with Richfield winning, but don't explain how this will change.
