What was the deal with the 'star' player from Crookston openly pouting on the ice and then standing still at center ice while the puck was behind the Crookston net and then shaking her head after a missed pass and showing disgust at her own teammate? Is this behavior tolerated all the time with the Crookston 'star'? The coaches and her parents should be ashamed.

I didn't see this incident or any of this game, but from your description I thought maybe this would help explain it:

I am from crookston living in the cities, and went and watched crookstons first to games, and I was embarassed by the "stars" play. She only played when she had the puck, never back-checked, never played D. It seemed to me that she had quite the Ego, and not much of a team player.

Which game are you talking about Bensonmum? I only got to see the televised game vs Farmington out of all Crookston's games in the tournament. Also, which player was she "disgusted" with??

I think all 'star' players on any team get frustrated with fellow teammates. Even those who aren't so called 'star' players get frustrated, too.

I think Crookston is one of those teams where players, and even fans, will get easily frustrated at, because there is such a gap between their players overall abilities. They don't have much depth in their roster so that gap probably frustrates 4 to 5 players out on the ice.

Being a 'star' player isn't easy because they are expected to come up big in tight games. That is alot of pressure on a kid. Crookston's 'star' player or players are what brought them to the state tourney, and got them 3rd place. Congrats to the pirates and as for Bensonmum and golden here is some advice... You two should be the ones ashamed of your posts because calling out one player on their frustrations when i bet every player shows the same frustration at some point in the game is just being sort of hypocritical.

This is the first and only time I've ever said anything negative about a player on this forum. I shouldn't even have hinted at her identity. But her behavior was so reprehensible (not normal frustration--First, skating at a snail's pace from the Hibbing goal to center ice, then stopping there and not moving for about ten seconds, all the while the puck and other nine players were in the Crookston zone. Then actually looking at her teammate and shaking her head in disgust. It COULD NOT have been anything but trying to humiliate her teammate) that I felt it neccessary to call her out on it. Especially when moments later a young girl in the crowd yelled out "player's name, you're my hero."
And by the way, she humiliated herself, and tried to humiliate her teammate, in front of a lot more people than read this forum.
I'm not going to argue with you about it--I'm done with the subject. Especially since the Crookston 'people' seem to be perfectly happy with the situation. When the U10s and U12 players in Crookston start behaving the same way, good luck to you.

The great thing about message boards is that people can post there opinions on things. The bad part about message boards is that people can post there opinions on things. Whether they are right or wrong.

I watched "Crookston's star player" block at least 5 shots in each of the 3 games at the State Tournament. But she doesn't play any defense?

Maybe when you saw her leaving the zone she was getting a quick rest so she could stay out another 30 seconds. Maybe when you saw her at the red line it was by design? When you have 2 all state defensemen who are very good at getting the puck out of the zone you can do that. It also forces teams to bring at least 1 defenseman back to watch her, turning it into at least a 4 on 4 in the zone. And often teams need to drop both Defensemen back to watch her which makes for an easier breakout.

I heard the same things about Dave Spehar back when he was playing for Duluth East. Could it be that some players just see things happening so much sooner than everybody else that they look like they are being lazy out there?

I would be willing to bet that the strategy that Crookston was using worked many more times than it didn't over the course of the year. Maybe it didn't work the time you saw it but it seemed to work pretty well on the game winning goal in the 3rd place game. One sister knowing where the other one would be and getting the puck to her.

I did not see the game but congratulations to the Pirates for a 3 place finish at State!

I am a proud alum to see this team go so far. Young team too. See what the off season and next year brings.

Congratulations to the Crookston Pirates girl's hockey team who took third at State and were the Section 8A Academic Champs. Congrats as well to Marlee Wheelhouse, Erika Wheelhouse and Lexy Wangen who were named to the all tournament team, named All-State by the Minnesota Girl's Hockey Association, and were named to the Greater Minnesota Conference All-Conference team. Teamates Janessa DeBoer and Danielle Persson were named as honorable mention to the Greater Minnesota Conference All-Conference team. Crookston girl's head coach, Tim Moe was the Section 8A Coach of the year and was named the Minnesota State CO-Coach of the year with Chris Peterson, head coach at Richfield. Evidently alot of "qualified" people reconize that this progam is very solid and has great leadership. Your fan's thank you for all your hard work and effort in making Crookston hockey history. GO PIRATES :!:
