Team Minnesota...Minnesota vs. Michigan series
My son was contacted last week about Team Minnesota, and going to Detroit for a series vs. Team Michigan. Does anyone know much about this? It sounds like a great deal, but I am just wondering if there is any feedback on this organization.

I have heard good things about the program, and they have an impressive list of alumni as well.

The truth hurts
I see they have posted the rosters for the three teams. I am surprised by some of the 89-90 and 91-92 players or rather some of the names I thought might be there. Seemed like a relatively inexpensive, higher-level tournament to play in. I thought perhaps more kids would have had an interest. I don't know the 93-94 players as well so don't know how this roster compares to what is out there.

I asked some people who have gone with these guys before and they said it is first class all the way. They seem to have a pretty good coaching staff to work with all these kids. I have only been signed up for a couple days and I'm impressed so far, I hope the hockey is good, it should be.pucker52 wrote:I see they have posted the rosters for the three teams. When you say you are surprised by some of the players on those teams, who surprises you?
The 89 - 90 team looks stacked....Gleason, Everson, Baker, and Budish from Edina. Murray, Stephan, Montpettit, Carl and Toews from Shattuck, Ben Leis from Duluth. This team looks pretty good. Actually I think all the teams do. I'm glad we said yes.

Team Minnesota... Minnesota vs Michigan Series
I think this may be a tough weekend for some as many qualified players have already committed to play in the USHL Central Scouting "Prospects Tourney" the very next weekend in Chicago.
Re: Team Minnesota... Minnesota vs Michigan Series
True, but it is also a good opportunity to knock some of the rust off against good competition. Many kids have not skated since their season ended last month. This will help them get back into the swing of things so they can strut their stuff in Chicago.animal1019 wrote:I think this may be a tough weekend for some as many qualified players have already committed to play in the USHL Central Scouting "Prospects Tourney" the very next weekend in Chicago.

This series is a great idea. Selects have so many politics involved and finally the players can just compete for the sake of competition. Someone just wrote an article on this series, check out this link http://www.gopherpuck.blogspot.com.
I have been told that the Detroit Red Wings and Little Caesars is getting involved in this event in order to promote it. Sounds great. I guess that the 2008 Minnesota vs Michigan series will be in Minneapolis, they will be alternating cities every other year. I hope the Wild gets involved.
This event could really grow if it is as good as it should be. Who is organizing this event? Is this a Bernie McBain program?
Rosters look solid. It seems that they have a nice mix of players from around the state. I agree that the roster does not have some of the names I thought they would have, but then that is good.

I don't know much about this program, but I have to tell you from a northern perspective. There are more northern kids on these teams than I have seen in many years. Generally you see this kind of thing advertised as being the best the state has to offer and you don't find anyone north of Forrest Lake on the Roster. It looks like they are truely trying to get the best players in the state and with the northern contingent involved I have to say A ++ to this organization. It is impressive that you do know about all these kids.wannagototherink wrote:My son was contacted last week about Team Minnesota, and going to Detroit for a series vs. Team Michigan. Good luck to all the kids and congratulations to the Duluth East kids going!
Well done Team Minnesota!!!

It also doesn't hurt that the 91/92 coaches are the Duluth East Bantam A coaches. I'm glad they were able to invite who they wanted.

93/94 roster
Sorry, but there is no way that 15 of the top 93/94 players come from Edina and Duluth East.
This will be a good team but not even close to the top team that Minnesota could put on the ice.

MN vs. MI Series
I believe the player from Omaha is going to Shattuck. This program does accept Shattuck players, as they are a part of Minnesota hockey in their own way.
Even if Shattuck players are from another state, they have been able to participate on Team Minnesota as they attend school in Minnesota.
From what I have heard, the Team Minnesota program does not just hand-select players, they have a website where any player can apply for participation on one of the teams for the series.
Each player who applies for participation is selected by a panal of non-parent coaches from different levels of hockey and different Minnesota locations. If players feel like they should have been selected, they should know that they could have applied for participation on the www.teamminnesota.org website. Check out the website.
I hope that when next years series returns to Minnesota, those players who think they qualify for participation fill out an application to be selected. I have heard that the selection committee wants to include as many players from all stretches of Minnesota, but they need to apply for participation.

Agree with playerfirst. If kid's don't register, they can't pick you. I e-mailed the guy running this about some '93's and he responded very promptly and cordially. He expressed a genuine interest in getting top player's from throughout the state, but those player's need to register. Perhap's this tourney will get greater interest and more kid's signed up to be looked at. Like I said, the response I got seemed very genuine.

Those rosters have all the kids at each level listed by position. From that list, they are going to split that roster into 2 equal teams at each level, so there will be 6 teams going, not three. So the kids will get plenty of ice time.gopherhockey33 wrote:why are so many guys from each position playing? they wont play more than 8-10 shifts a game and some kids will only play a handful.
