Pauly Resigns From Minnetonka, Returns To Benilde
Word out of Minnetonka is that Ken Pauly, the former BSM head coach lured to Minnetonka, is on his way back to BSM for the 2007-08 season.

Rumor was Tonka folks outside of the school put together a nice package for Pauly to come over. If it is a money thing, I think Tonka hockey enthusiasts could provide for Mr. Pauly.
Maybe he enjoyed coaching at a private school better than public.
I wish him well.

I wonder who he will have as his assistant coaches?

I would imagine his Assistant Coaches will be different this time around.

Re: Assistant Coaches
Didn't his old assistant coaches stay at Benilde?
Re: Assistant Coaches
The two I know about are Paul Ostby and Jack Blatherwick. Jack is the physiologist for the Washington Capitals. Paul remained, but I don't know if that will be a fit for next year.flatontheice wrote:Didn't his old assistant coaches stay at Benilde?
Any speculation?

Pauly's Assistant Coaches
I was looking on the Minnetonka Web site and noticed that while some of his assistants are Minnetonka alumni, he had John Russo Jr on his staff. wouldn't it make sense that he would leave for Benilde as well? I have seen his name often in connection with the High School Elite League and his bio states that he played at Gustavus, though the Gustavus site does not list him as a hockey alum.

That was not a knock on Pauly. Seemingly, he did a good job at Minnetonka. I was referring to the O'Leary comparison. Remember, O'Leary and false resume??? I believe that was tongue and cheek humor.Hockeyguy_27 wrote:No Way!breakout wrote:EREmpireStrikesBack wrote: I didn't know George O'Leary coached hockey.
Good onePauly took the Skippers to the show after they had not made it for 10 years. Good for Benilde, bad for the Skippers.

My bad, I actually wasn't responding to what you said--which was quite funny by the way. I was just shocked to read the title of this thread after remembering how Tonka opened up their checkbook to get Pauly there. Maybe Reilly has more money than TonkaThat was not a knock on Pauly. Money
Like Tom Cruise said "Show me the Money! And yes, Reilly does have more money than Tonka.
A note to Mr. Pauly, good luck at BSM. No more "recruiting" and the twins names are Connor and Ryan (#7 & #9), with Mikey joining you for the 2008-09 season.

Coaching stipend?
Are you guys serious,....."a nice package for Pauly to come over",........"opened up their checkbook to get Pauly there"? This is HS hockey, right?
If this is true,...with this corruption,.....and the MSHSL is concerned about a few athletes going to a different school.
Maybe the coaches that transfer should sit out a year?

Minnetonka lured a successful football coach in from Blaine. Maybe I am ignorant to think "boosters" would contribute to bring in coaches. Then again, maybe not.

Re: Coaching stipend?
I don't think there is anything illegal or unethical about paying a coach more money if he is a good coach. If the Gopher football and basketball teams operated under this premise during the Mason/Munson years, the world would have been a happier place.

Absolutely.HockeyRocks1 wrote:I don't think anyone is saying there's something wrong with making more money or a supplemental income.
The truth is and everyone over the age of 30 knowns that MONEY talks. It's simply the American way! If your school/boosters can put forth the cash for a great coach, have at it.
Public funded sports
Money can do all the talking it wants at the professional (or private) level. I hope there is no HS public school that is paying anymore than the normal stipend for any coach,....especially with the way school districts are continually whining for more money!
If the boosters think they need to make the investment, it is still crap at the HS level, but at least the money is voluntarily donated, not taken from tax payers.
With regard to public college coaches salaries, that is wrong, too. It's rationalized, by saying it's covered in ticket prices. But, I wonder if there is anything else at the public university they could use the money for? No real need though, they will just go to the legislature for more money. I gotta feeling you guys don't care though, as long as they get another coach that will tell ya he'll wins some games.
Good Luck
