National Select 17's

Post by MNRinkRat »

I was interested in the upcoming National Select 17 games that are to be held in St. Cloud from July 7-13. The thing is I have not been able to find any info about them. I'm interested in where they are taking place and how much games will cost and what the times are. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

All games are played at the SCSU rinks. Games start on Sunday, and are usually run from 3:00-9:00 p.m. Camp finishes on Friday morning with games from 8:00-2:00 p.m. The only cost is for a program if you want one.

How do you find out when the Minnesota kids play?
Is there a website with the rosters/schedule?

Not sure if the Minnesota kids are playing on one team. They may be spread out.

Games should be found on the following website. Go to the calendar on the right. Click on the day and view schedule.

Minnesota players will be distributed throughout the 12 teams. Rosters and schedules should be live by July 6th.

Thanks.

FYI, the website is new and may have some bugs.

The minnesota boys will be playing together as a team. Here is a roster.

http://www.minnesotahockey.org/assorted ... 20List.pdf

There are minne players that were named as alternates that may be playing for other teams.

This link will give you schedules, resuls and stats.

This is actually not correct. USA Hockey went away from the keeping players on specific regional teams about 4-5 years ago. It became too territorial and players from one part of the country did not interact with players from other parts of the US. The system they use now serves 2 purposes, 1) allow interaction between players and 2) allows for evaluators to see how kids play with someone they have never skated with before.

No, they used to play as a team, but the last two (or maybe three) years the players are split up. Team rosters usually come out about a week before the event.

Oh sorry! I know they did that witgh the 15's&16's, but then I thought at 17's they kept them together. That is what this roster indicates? Oh well!

Sorry if it sounded like I was giving you some grief, that wasn't my intention. The 15s have always been mixed up, but the 17s and the 16s were kept together by region up until a year or two ago. It made for more interesting watching (at least to me) because you had the Minnesota arrogance rooting angle  , and you could see all of the local players at the same time. It's still some fun hockey, and well worth the drive to St. Cloud though.

The roster is just the list of players that are moving on to the national festival.

Credit was given in the subject line. The Iceburg on GPL is a noted information thief himself, and the "facts" he doesn't rip off, he makes up.

Anyone check out the selects today? I went and watched most of the day. Mostly just paid attention to the Minnesota players. I thought Joe Gleason looked pretty good. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Select 17's

Post by hockey nut »

I watched all the games today. There were 4 Minnesota kids that stood out to me. I thought Danny Kristo (USDP)1 goal 1 assist Danny Mattson (Holy Angels)1 goal 1 assist, Derek Stepan(Shattuck) 1 goal 1 assist and Drew Olson (Brainard) on Defense were all really good. I think Fink, Youso, and Hanawoski can play better. The ice on the big rink was awful. Ice should be better today. It's a long week.

U.S. Under-18 Select Team Tops Czech Republic, 5-4, in Exhibition
Team USA Posts Victory in Tune-Up for
2007 Under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka

UHERSKY BROD, Czech Republic -- Danny Mattson (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored one of two goals on the night with 3:13 left in the game to lift the U.S. Under-18 Select Team to a 5-4 victory over the Czech Republic here today in a tune-up for the 2007 Under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka. The annual tournament will run from August 14-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Hodonin, Czech Republic.

“It was a perfect exhibition game,” said Team USA Head Coach Roger Grillo (North Kingstown, R.I.), who is the head men’s ice hockey coach at Brown University. “The guys played hard and got better as the game went on. They adapted well and didn’t let a little adversity get them off track - they stayed focused on their goal, which was to win the game.”

The first four goals of the game went back and forth between the two teams, with the Czechs striking first at the 4:38 mark of the opening frame. Team USA’s Philip McRae (Chesterfield, Mo.) was next to get on the score sheet at 7:41, followed by another Czech tally at 9:18 and Mattson’s first of the game at 9:34. Courtesty of a Nate Dewhurst (Johnston, Iowa) power-play goal at 14:04 that broke the back-and-forth scoring pattern, the United States took a 3-2 lead heading into the second period.

In the early part of period two, the Czech Republic was able to gain a 4-3 lead on back-to-back goals at 26:43 and 27:40. However, Team USA bounced back again, as David Warsofsky (North Marshfield, Mass.) put one in the back of the net at 16:33 for a 4-4 score.

The lone goal of the final stanza came from Mattson at 16:47 to seal the victory for Team USA.

The United States will open play in the 2007 Under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka on Tuesday (Aug. 14) at 9 a.m. EDT versus Russia at Zimny Stadium in Piestany, Slovakia.

NOTES: Aaron Crandall (Lakeville, Minn.) and Brady Hjelle (International Falls, Minn.) split time in net for Team USA ... The 2007 Under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka includes teams from Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States … Last August, at the 2006 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka, the U.S. Under-18 Select Team finished in second place with a record of 3-1-0 … Six members of Team USA were on the 2006 U.S. Under-17 Select Team that competed in the 2006 Three Nations Tournament held in Rochester, N.Y. ... Team members were chosen from the 2007 USA Hockey Select 17 Player Development Camp, which was held July 7-13 at the National Hockey Center at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn., and featured many of America’s best hockey players born in 1990 ... The Under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka was called the Junior World Cup until 2005 ... Seth Appert (Niskayuna, N.Y.), who is the head men’s ice hockey caoch at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is serving as Team USA’s assistant coach.
