Re: Like new
If your son had the same surgery for cartilage growth on the heals that mine did, I suggest the RBK 9K Pumps...waylon wrote:My son had surgery on his heals, and the skates are now to big, like new

Was that a good move? My son's last pair of skates were Vapor XXX's and for the first time he developed "Bauer Bumps" (Haglunds Deformity). He is a three sport athlete and has elected to not have surgery at this time. We aren't sure what caused the bumps but have switched to the RBK 9K Pumps as well. Have you had good luck with these skates? My sons doctor said he would have to detach each Achilles, shave the bone, and reattach for each foot and he was reluctant to do both at once. How was the recovery period. Appreciate any insight...quickgym guy wrote:If your son had the same surgery for cartilage growth on the heals that mine did, I suggest the RBK 9K Pumps...waylon wrote:My son had surgery on his heals, and the skates are now to big, like new

His skates are working great... His bumps grew back though, we got a second opinion from another doctor who has worked with UMD and USA hockey. He said the only way to get rid of this for good is to have the same surgery that Peter Forsberg had. I'm not sure of the details of this, but I know it had a long recovery...D16Dad wrote:Was that a good move? I'm not sure that one pair of skates is the cause of it, more likely an extended period of time with pressure against the calcaneus, skating a lot of hrs for many years is more likely the culprit, it probably just came to a head after all these yrs. when he happen to be using these skates.
However it may be that the pumps can mold around the bump so that it doesn't inflame the area which certianly would be more comfortable.
Good luck...oh and BTW as far as I know they don't remove the tendons, they just move them out of the way by retraction, so they can remove the bump.

Good luck!

Bauer Bumps
These bone spurs or "Bauer Bumps" are caused by heel lift in skates. The best I've seen for being easy on feet are Mission skates.
