Which HS teams will go from a poor season last year to a significantly better one this year (and why?)...
I will start...
Chaska, too young last year, a total of 2 seniors and 2 jrs last year. 10 sophs and 10 freshmen (2 freshmen made all-conference)
They graduated only 2 girls and the bulk of the line-up is JRS and SOPHS this season, good this year, and great in 2008-09 when they have mostly JRS and SRS...I see them improving a ton in the next 2 years.
worst to best
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
huge imporvements for year to year
Also - what about Chanhassen high school?[/quote]
This school will not open until fall of 2009 when this years Juniors are in college. (2 more years) Also, Chan/Chaska will be Co-Oping in every sport they can't field a competitive team. For as LONG as it takes...This will include co-oping for girls hockey, wrestling, etc.
They will stand alone from the get-go for popular bursting at the seams sports that routinely CUT kids at CHS such as football, CC, soccer etc.
CHS BOTH seniors are strong 10Jrs/10 sophs all had V ice last year, there will be very few (if any) move ups from JV. They will be much stronger. However, they are in the toughest conference in the state, IMO, which makes it far tougher.

Getting coop approval from many different groups of people (school board, parents, MSHSL, Lake Conference, etc.) for a couple of AA-sized schools won't be easy. Keep in mind that more than half the lake conference teams can't field their own JV teams yet still do not coop at varsity (Lakeville N, Lakeville S, RM, AV, not sure but think BJeff and BKen as well).
Another team that is slated to be broken up in a couple years with East Ridge High School.Woodbury could be a surprise in this area - they are young. Have 3 very good seniors in DeMike, Lacher and goaltender Klatt. They lost a top sophmore Lundberg to T-Breds but the younger players may be a step up over the seniors who graduated.

Lakeville South doesn't have a JV, they are Co-oping with Lakeville N for JV.
When two schools are in the SAME school district and just growing, it is far easier to get approval if you can prove you can't field a team. In wrestling in grade currently 7-10 (11-12 will not be there when the school opens) there is exactly 2 kids that wrestle in the chan boarders. They will either allow the co-op or allow inter district OE and Host smaller sports teams at one or the other until they grow enough to field their teams. Some sports have tons of kids and will have no issues from day #1. Denying kids the opps to play when a new school opens, through no fault of any kid, they didn't move, nor have any choice in the matter of what grade they happen to be in when it happens...seems extremely cruel and I am certain it will not happen.
