Northern USHL'ers & HS'ers Non-commited

Post by money »

Hello and good afternoon -

Being a college hockey fan, I am a little surprised how a few northern kids are still uncommitted to colleges at this point. Those include:

*Jake Johnson - Denfeld
*K Flagherty - East
*Filzen - Proctor
*D Olson- Brainard
*DeCenzo - Hibbing

I am sure there is still others but, what is everyone's thougths on players that haven't committed. I don't think that is a bad thing (many times players committ too soon) but, please post if you know where some of these kids may end up.
:)
Have a great day!

Have a great day. Johnson, small and doesn't pass the puck, Flaherty, good skater however needs to work on his offensive output, Olson, big and tough, not sure why he isn't committed yet, but he will be. Decenzo I feel is the best of the above as he plays TEAM hockey. There are other notherners too who will play, Jokinen, Johnson (east) it is still early for all.

I think all will play D1. I bet some will end up at Duluth in the short term. Olson has the best chance at getting to a powerhouse school, probably as a 2009 recruit.

Great question Money! I have been thinking of this question for awhile but never posted it. I would like to particularly zoom in on the High school kids. Many of them who are already playing in the USHL will surely have a bright future. But what about the kids in elite league, yeah, its part of the league to help get the kids some exposure but do we really expect all the point leaders to get a college scholarship, what happens to them when they don’t? And what about those kids that have already signed but aren’t able to produce at a high pace level like the NA or Elite league??? Your thoughts and views please?!?!

I like Olson from Brainerd. He's a big boy with good skill and has an edge to him.

Yea he is a big boy, but what adds part of that edge is that he can wheel when he builds momentum. Althoguh there are others, few big kids kids can really wheel like him.

chalk up LERHKE on the list, comes from a small, non hockey h.s. school, but is a great player...4th in the elite league in scoring, should end upp somewhere in the WCHA

Lehrke will end up in the WCHA, two other good northern player that will end up somewhere are Landman and Hahn, both good players, both good team players.

Just my thoughts on Olson, i like the way he plays as well but to play at a WCHA school he will have to get in better shape and work at getting quicker.

i agree that hahn will end up somewhere... he's got some serious speed... if his hands catch up with his feet he'll be pretty tough to stop... reminds me of aaron bendickson who graduated from thief river falls a few years back, currently playing for wisconsin

He has a good start at getting there as scouts from UND and Minnesota were noticable at various games scouting him. Not to mention the games vs. Little Falls and Elk River where Don Lucia was in presence. It also didn't hurt him to be pared up with Carl Sneep for the majority of Olson's sophomore season.
