Nov. 2-4 Denver @ University of Minnesota (Twin Cities)

Post by wisconsinprephockey »

One of many big WCHA match-ups this weekend.

The Gophers have experienced some bad luck and problems early on, but look to be getting on track with a sweep of Ohio State last weekend.

Denver coming into the season with high hopes of returning to former glory this season had an opening weekend sweep over Maine, which was followed by splits with Notre Dame and UMD. Denver is banking on goaltending this season which has been dead on in 4 of thier 6 games.

I am looking for a split this weekend.
Gophs will probably take another month or two to build up some chemistry within their young team.
It's early, but the goaltending looks pretty solid.

I'm going to predict a split in this series as well, Denver has a pretty strong team and is usually strong in the defensive zone. We'll see if they can neutralize some of the strong offensive talents that Minnesota-Twin Cities can put on the ice.

Kangas gets the start Sunday against Denver...takes his first collegiate loss. Denver completes the sweep of the Minnesota-Twin Cities Golden Gophers with a 4 to 1 victory in Minneapolis today leaving the Golden Gophers at 0-4-0 in the WCHA so far this season.

Gophers have some work to do. I don't sense they have their power play figured out yet. Fairchild moved the puck nicely on the power play. He set up some nice opportunities.

Need to find some goal scorers!

Agreed - put the f-ing puck on frame. What about our NHL wanna-be, you know the ones that had such a difficult time deciding on whether to turn pro or stay in school- under performing big time in my opinion.

Seems like no true leader, seems like just wearing the same uniform is not getting it done from a team standpoint.

Frazee also does not look he has improved since he first arrived.

Yeah, he gave that Denver guy quite a shorthanded breakaway.

The Gophs need to pick it up and find the right line combos to put the puck in the net.

Yeah, you are correct on that one. He did not play that right. Seemed that the puck hopped over his stick.

How many times did Peltier miss the net yesterday?

One of them may be thinking about his buddy Toews and how great he is playing in the NHL.

Will Ness graduate early enough after winning Mr. Hockey this year to help with the Gophs play-off run by quarterbacking the PowerPlay? :-k

He had better pick up his effort if he thinks he is going to join Toews in the show any time soon. Ted Nolan gave Okposo a rude awakening this summer when he told him of his chances of making the Islanders any time soon. The kid had better get it in gear if he thinks he is going to make it with the way he has been producing.

A lot of good players, but not much TEAM.

Some key guys are still very, very young.

18/19 vs 21,22,23 is a disadvantage.

Hope they don't get down before tehy have had a chance to mature a bit through the season.
Like their coach says - you coach for March not Novmber.

Agree, he seems to be having a bit of the sophomore blues. For some reason he seemed to jell with Hirsch. Since Hirsch left, Okposo's production seems to have gone south. I don't know if that is fact...........just seems that way.
