MNHS teams vs. other states
A couple questions. Would you like to see Minnesota HS teams invite HS teams from other states to play before or during the regular season more often? What states have teams that could be competitive?

I'd love to see some match-ups iviting top tier teams from around the nation not just out of state. High school football and basketball have big matchups where a lot of travel is required, so why not hockey? Bring over some teams from out east or a top tier Colorado team and send a few teams out to those places. I'd like to see some of those matchups
Realistically, only Mass. and Rhode Island have high school teams that could compete. States like Colorado as well as Michigan and others have their top players playing Midget AAA. Many of the top prep schools out east have "overage" kids (postgraduate or 5th year seniors) in their lineups.wisconsinprephockey wrote:I'd love to see some match-ups iviting top tier teams from around the nation not just out of state. Sure it would be fun to see MN teams play Boston Catholic or Mount St. Charles, but with the expense that would need to be picked up by the school or parents it is hard to justify.
You have to remember that many of the basketball matchups you see where teams travel a great distance are funded by Nike, etc. There is simply no demand among corporate sponsors for hockey games of this type.
Century has had some good games with New Richmond WI in the Kiwannis tournament. I don't know if they put out top teams year in and year out so maybe that isn't the way to go.
All 3 Rochester public schools seem to make a northern Minnesota double header trip so for those kids it is really a chance to play against a different style of game.

Go cry me a river.
someone touched on it already but i'm not sure the structure in the schools is the same. i have also heard that a lot of those schools are something kind of like all star teams.
also, isn't there a tournament every year that we send the best teams to in chicago or something like that that attracts some of the best teams in the nation?

Most Fargo and Grand Forks teams can usually match up in Minnesota pretty well. There are years when they don't but overall they fare pretty well. Just about everything west of there is really bad. Just look at their state tournament. By the second day there is usually only one team from the western 1/2 of the state still in it.Orange and Black wrote:Nearly all of the North Dakota schools plays in Christmas tournaments in Minnesota.

Doesn't South Fargo usually have a team that would be top 20 in Minnesota?State Champ 97 wrote:Most Fargo and Grand Forks teams can usually match up in Minnesota pretty well. Out-of-state opponents
Delbarton School out of New Jersey is coming to Minnesota to play Breck on January 18th and then Holy Family Catholic/Waconia on January 19th.
Academy of Holy Angels is traveling out east in January to play Catholic Memorial in Massachusetts on January 19th and Mount St. Charles in Rhode Island on January 21st.
LaCrescent out of 1A always plays a majority of Wisconsin teams.
There are several North Dakota match-ups as well with a variety of Minnesota teams.
There are a few North Dakota teams participating in the holiday tournaments. Bloomington Jefferson will be playing in Grand Forks for the Grand Forks Herald/Stadstad Classic on the 21st and 22nd of December.
Bismarck Century will be at Granite City Classic in St. Cloud on the 27th, 28th, and 29th. They will play their first game against Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato at 5:15 PM on the 27th.
Most of the team schedules are up on www.followthepuck.com. Class A teams are still being worked on. The master schedule for all games played each day will be up as we get closer to November 23rd. I am confirming some locations, times, and matchups before posting them.
