Anybody have any input on how this team will do in the upcoming year?

I think the lose of Wolter will hurt them. Someone up front will have to step up and carry the load. I know they have a couple of good 10th graders (Anderson being one). Guys like Elms, Ozzy, and Pederson will have to play big roles. I think that Civ will be able to holds his own between the pipes. D should be experienced with Menk, Wolter, Goldsmith and one more that I can't think of. Also Cuddihy should be able to step up and play. Jacobsen will be another to keep your eye on. It could be a good year for the Mustangs.

Being from around that area the the only knock I have is that they don't train to become winners. I don't know that they do much off ice trianing for hockey at all. The WBL, Rosevilles, and Stillwaters already have the upper had when it comes to pure talent that MV needs to take the extra time off the ice to start closing that gap and when they do it train with the intensions of beating these teams.

Somebody needs to go to proof reading school.

Proofread (one word)
(and i will be using fragments in the following post so don't get cute)
As for MV, a surprise that their hockey program hasn't reached a consistently elite level. So many of their other sports are top notch. A nationally recognized track program. Soccer, tennis and cross country teams that are state tournament fixtures. Top 10-15 in football each year. The school seems to possess a desire to be cream of the crop in almost everything they do. I guess hockey is a different world completely, and I'm sure people involved in the program have a list of reasons why it's never happened.

A very good point Hilltopper99, hockey isn't as big over there yet at the high school level. Also agree with ImissMYhockey. The questions I ask is what are they doing/not doing to keep these kids together. I know this past season it looked liked the bantam team had a very good season. Do the kids not feel like they will get the exposure playing at MV? I beleive they have some good atheletes in that area but I don't know that the dedication is there to take it to the next level. I would really like to see this program turn it around. Maybe this will be the year. Does anyone no anything about the coaching staff that replaced Nitti?
Schwartzbauer played for White Bear in the mid 90's while Stan Blom was an assistant coach at White Bear during that time.pucks/sticks wrote:A very good point Hilltopper99, hockey isn't as big over there yet at the high school level. Blom also has been an assistant coach at Augsburg College where he played in the 70's. Schwartzbauer played at Augsburg after a few years of minor league baseball.

The transfer problem actually started pre and during the nitti era. Most kids and parents didn't like being coached by him so they left. Also brothers and sisters would go to hill, so their siblings would follow and this will continue on for a while I believe. A good example is the Phillippi trio, mike plays at nebraska-omaha now, joe is a standout, and the youngest one will be a freshman. This is definatly their year to end this problem though otherwise they will continue to suffer from transfers for a long time to come.pucks/sticks wrote:A very good point Hilltopper99, hockey isn't as big over there yet at the high school level. Where is Villella from?
Croonquist could be a big addition for the Mustangs.
I agree that you can't do much in situation like the Phillippi family and in that case with DeLisle going to Grace which his family also went. But it shocks me that you lose a player like Wolter one of the top sophmores in minnesota to WBL when it sounds like his brother is the captain and I've heard his father is on the booster. What went wrong here? I don't know if I've ever heard of anything such as this with any other program. I also look at Alt to CDH. Wasn't his dad involved with the MV football team? I see it sounds like this was even going on when Nitti was involved but people say he wasn't much involved with the youth program. Maybe the communication between the high school and the youth program needs to get better? Just want to really see things get turned around.

Gino Villella was a sophomore from stillwater last year, and played a little of jv and varstiy. Croonquist will be huge, he was a star in youth hockey, and I know from playing a little rink rat hockey with him, he still has it. What happened was wolter didn't make the team as a freshman, even though he was obviously good enough, because schwartzbauer thought that he would develop better in A bantam from playing more games, which is probably true. And yes I believe his dad is the President of the Booster Club. As far as alt, I dont know much about him.pucks/sticks wrote:Where is Villella from?

I would imagine white bear and stillwater would be good, but roseville, cretin, and woodbury are all questions to me. These 3 teams all lost their star goalies and a lot of their star players. I wouldn't be surprised to see mv make a jump and same with stillwater. I look at also as this is the year the mustangs finally make it to the colesium
