Section 8 Under represented at State

Post by winnings not 4 everyone »

If this weeks GHS Poll remains remotely intact by year end, section 8 teams will be underrepresented at the state tournament. Section 8A holds 4 spots in the top eight, unfortunately, only one team will advance. All the Metro gets the attention but northern MN gets the job done!! :D

Tell you what. You can have another one of your northern teams in the Class A state tournament (for a total of 4), as long as you cut back on AA teams to one. If I remember correctly, Bemidji and GRG both went two and out at the AA state tournament last year, while some deserving teams (Edina, EdenPrairie, Centennial, Hopkins, Armstrong, Eagan, HolyAngels) sat at home.

Bensonmum I couldn't agree more and it has been that way the past 2-3 years.

There will always be many deserving teams left out of the tourney as long as the Sections remain based on geographical lines. Some sections will always be deeper than others. Up North, Section 8AA does appear to be down, but 7AA will be well represented as GRG, Cloquet and Duluth (coming on strong!) all have very good teams.

Once you get to the tournament, almost anything can happen, so I wouldn't just base my argument on what happened last year. Bemidji is struggling right now, but who knows what might happen should they make the tournament and start playing like everyone thought they were capable of.

May the best team, at the end of the season, bring home the trophy.

But Bemidji gave the state champions the best game of the tourney in the quarterfinals.

That was a good game. The semi vs. Roseville may have been a little more nerve wracking for Pony fans though.
