I don't know if they are a top contender. This team doesn't seem to have normal AHA depth.
Will Mattson leave for JR. next year?

They had 3 or 4 D1 quality guys on the team last year. One of them was a stud defensemen. Plus, they had a good complimentary group around them.
I was a bit surprised by the coaches moving Morris to forward.
The season is early. Trebil will get them back on track.

The problem this year seems to be defense and goaltending. The defense is always dragging because they go every other shift. Trebil is only skating two D pairs right now.
Jon Boerger played Rosemount on a broken foot (plus, Rosemount is good so that loss doesn't bother me). The team has a lot of learning to do because they are so young but they'll get on track eventually.

Third times a charm.
I was waiting for someone to bring this up. You are totally clueless in what you say. You know nothing about the school, team, coach or anything else about Minnesota High School hockey. For the last time AHA does not recruit, been investigated and proved it does not happen.Poor Imitation wrote:AHA's recruiting class isnt as good this year?
As far as this year goes, AHA has played three games, three different goalies and they have a lot of under-classmen on the team. Why is it that they can't lose a couple of games? I am sure over the years that all the schools in this state, Edina, Jefferson, East, Moorhead, Centennial even Richfield have lost a couple of games. They have all been good or even great teams. Can't AHA rebuild the program once in ten years. So they lost a couple of games. No one is making excuses, they played the games tight.
When they played Rosemount it was AHA's first game and Rosemount's fifth. AHA was down 6 - 2 in the third period and almost pulled off the comeback. The game was a physical game and Rosemount attacked and played great. I now I was there. AHA's goalie played with a broken foot, maybe he should not have but it is over and done with.
In the second game they started their JV goalie and he did a great job. AHA won that game easily.
In the game on Friday against Wayzata, AHA played Webb in his first game of the year. Wayzata played fantastic, while AHA was passing real well. When they had their opportunities to shoot, they passed and missed the shot. They will learn as they go. In the first period Wayzata outshot AHA 12 -3, but the score was tied. In the second AHA came out and out-shot Wayzata 8 - 2 and the score was 2 - 1 for AHA. In the third AHA out-shot Wayzata 14 - 8, but Webb got called for a penalty and Wayzata capitalized on the mistake and scored the winner. It was a good game, except for the first period. I enjoyed this one.
Next and the most important point in this long post, why does AHA have to win every game? Why put the heavy burden on these BOYS? they are the ones winning and losing, not me or anyone else that posts on this board. I am a fan, probably there biggest supporter and I will support them win or lose. No one has the right to come on this board and make pointless attacks about the way they play or make some stupid remark about recruiting.

Best to get the losses out of the way early rather than at the end of February and early March.Zamman wrote:I was waiting for someone to bring this up. You are totally clueless in what you say. I'm sure Trebil will have them towards the top again as usual.

I had waited for someone to take it offensively. Its all good, the private schools that win dont have to recruit after a while (not saying that they have in the past) because they have built a winning tradition. Students/Players want to go somewhere they will get exposure and get noticed. If a program wins, they will get enrollment for that sport. Its not really recruiting.Zamman wrote:I was waiting for someone to bring this up. You are totally clueless in what you say. AHA will find their team when it matters and do some damage in the end. A young team needs time to adjust to the level of competition that AHA finds themselves playing. Bottom line is, I'm not to worried about a slow start because they have the best coach in the state to right the ship.
I also have one question for Zamman, what would a Zamboni driver know about recruiting players? And also to say someone is clueless because they disagree with a certain sentiment is just ironic.

I will tell you what a zamboni driver knows, the driver is also part of the AHA community not just a fan. He is an alum and a financial supporter of the school. He is a class rep for his graduating class. Oh and the person in question is just going by what they read and hear, not by any other means. Let's ask this question: Why would they recruit all these players just to cut them during tryouts? don't you think that would be a little stupid?spartanhockey wrote:AHA will find their team when it matters and do some damage in the end. Here is the best line I have read in a while:
"A young team needs time to adjust to the level of competition that AHA finds themselves playing. " Excellent point SpartanHockey....

That puts it a little more into perspective. It wasn't a shot at you but it now that I see my post again it does appear to be. If anyone doesn't believe that some type of "recruiting" doesn't happen with all schools throughout the state they're very uniformed. To answer question, the recruits in question are not typically going to find themselves being cut are they. These type of players are the ones going to battle for ice time on varsity right away.

as far as the "recruitment" angle...all the work has been done in the years past, the school recruits itself by now. The good coaching, the successful hockey team, the advancement of many players to good college programs....so you are "half" right..nothing illegal is being done...but no type of recruiting needs to be done anymore, it goes without saying. No different than Hill, BSM, or any of the other successful privates.
as for AHA, the team...They are very skilled, and will have a successful season when it is all said and done. They have a daunting road through sections with Edina, Burnsville and Jefferson, but anything can happen.
