FOR IMMEADIATE RELEASE

QuickSkills Inc. a Grand Rapids based organization today announced the formation of a girls U-19 hockey team in Northern Minnesota. A team anticipated to be sanctioned by both Minnesota Hockey and USA Hockey at next week’s winter meetings in Minneapolis will begin in the fall of 2008.
Dan Clafton owner of QuickSkills Inc announced that following ratification by USA and Minnesota Hockey the team would begin full-blown operation.
We have been in contact with a multitude of Division one colleges across the country gaining their ideas and understanding their needs. We have observed the growth of women’s hockey and have determined a need for this level of play said Clafton. The Team will be based out of Grand Rapids Minnesota said Clafton. We will play 15 home games and 25 road games.
Teams such as Shattuck St Mary’s Fairbault, Balmoral Prep School Winnipeg Canada, will be the type of teams we will attempt to play. These are elite teams with some of the best players in North America. Players will come from all over North America to our team explained Clafton. Approximately 50 percent of our roster will come from current division 1 coaches recommendations, The other 50 percent will come from open tryouts at a variety of locations across North America. The First Scheduled tryout will be in Grand Rapids Minnesota April 5th and 6th. Several very generous contributors have stepped forward to help fund this operation sited Clafton. Gemini Sports, CK Enterprise, The First National Bank Of Coleraine, Tom Clusiau Chrysler, Mission Hockey, and Clafton Skate. These groups have recognized the need and the potential said Clafton; we are very appreciative of their commitment to the helping our young ladies advance both in hockey, and in life. All player selected for our team who have graduated from High school will be required to attend Itasca Community college and take a minimum of 5 credits, but no more than 11 as per NCAA requirements Dr. Mike Johnson the Provost at the college has been instrumental in his involment in our team Clafton went on to explain. Education and athletics is a hard tandem to beat and Itasca Community College is an excellent starting place for anybody’s future.

Recommendations and applications have already begun to flow in, we are getting out and talking with as many players as we can, the kids need to know this is an option available to them. We have begun to put employees in place and have developed the structure of our organization; this is no small undertaking Clafton explained. I spoke with Mike Hasting an owner and General Manager of the Omaha Lancers, perhaps the greatest and most successful Jr. program for boys in the country, Mike spent a considerable time with me explaining what is important and what is not. We will base our development on his stated principles first and foremost. We will be about family and fun, When you come to see us play you will get more than a hockey game you will get an experience that will both please and excite you.
We are all about community as well stated Clafton, a Portion of every ticket sold will go to worthy community groups in an attempt to support a multitude of positive activities.
We look forward to working with charitable groups from all over the northland to help them raise funds for their organizations.
QuickSkills Inc. is a corporation based out of Grand Rapids Minnesota dedicated to the development and advancement of hockey players in the State of Minnesota Questions on this or any other QuickSkills event can be directed to Dan Clafton at 218-259-2503.

good luck.

How would travel work for going into Canada? Would all the girls be required to have passports? If so what is the expected wait for one?

Just curious questions

We applied for passports this Fall and received them in less than 3 weeks. Very easy process. We filled out the forms on-line, printed them out, brought pictures with and completed the process at our local post office. We were in and out with six people in our group in about 10-15 minutes. If we had needed them quicker there is an expediated process which we did not use.

Here is the link that we used:

Our passports had nothing to do with the Crunch team so Media will have to answer team specific questions.

Why the post office is in the passport business is way beyond me. Government office or not. The service at our local office is bad enough without waiting for non-postal issues. I waited in line for an extra 20 minutes while two of the three employees tried to figure out if they were doing the passport bookwork correctly for a family. (Was that you SportsMa?!! j/k) The court house has trained and experienced employees to do passports and they will do it even faster. Your local PO may be more efficient than ours, but take heed to my warning if it is not!

Kind of crazy.....in our community we had heard the opposite that the courthouse took forever so we went to our post office. The difference may be our post office does passports out of their distribution center so they are only dealing with passports and distribution not all of the other front counter issues. The fellow we dealt with was very efficient and friendly. If I see him around town I will need to thank him for his quick, efficient work. We only needed the one fellow to get us through the process. ''

It looks like it all depends on your community so ask around!

Passports are the easiest of ways for anyone now days, This is one of the stones left unturned but will be addressed in plenty of time. Also need to register with Minnesota Hockey each time you bring your team into Canada . all things I am learning along the way . Minnesota Hockey Register Carol Carlson has been great to work with.

The Boston area is going to have a junior team as well, called the Shamrocks that will be a U19 team and play in the JWHL. I'm hearing that they will be affiliating with a local parochial school and follow an academy type of program like NAHA and the Warner School.

My understanding is that Lexy Schutt was injuried a good portion of the year and has seen little action .
