Somebody call FSN... It's Rivalry Night - TONIGHT!!!!

Post by Govs93 »

As much as I hate to knock FSN for their choice in scheduling, I think they really dropped ball on this one. They had a prime opportunity to bring the state a double header of proportions seldom seen. An event so exclusive that the schedule makers put everything else aside for the night, and made these the only two games in the state. Contests steeped in tradition, featuring illustrious alumni such as...

- That one guy
- What's his name
- I'm drawing a blank
- I think he might have played Division III
- Herb Brooks

Because FSN missed it, on Wednesday, you will have to see them LIVE!!!

7:30PM - Parade Ice Garden
MINNEAPOLIS WEST MUSTANGS vs. MINNEAPOLIS EAST SAMURAIS

and...

8:00 - LEE & ROSE WARNER COLISEUM on the MINNESOTA STATE FAIRGROUNDS
ST. PAUL JOHNSON GOVERNORS vs. ST. PAUL COMO PARK COUGARS

BE THERE!!!

Johnson versus Como. The two most storied teams in the St. Paul City Conference. Every year lately it comes down to these two teams battling it out for the conferece crown. Truly this game will decide the fate of the city title. Don't miss out folks.

I'll be there... I'll snap a few pictures from inside the barn so everybody can see what that place looks like when it's full!

Not to be an absolute dink, but it is Aisles lol

I attend the Section games every year at the coli and that place does get pretty packed. Especially down in those makeshift "club seating" cement cubical. Personally I think the coliseum is a horrible place to watch games and to play them. The low glass, crappy ice, warm environment, the 20 foot gap between ice and seating. Granted, I do understand this was built for rodeos and livestock shows, but there are a hundred places I would rather be.

There are few certainties...

Death, taxes, and when a poster starts off his thread with "Not to be a complete dink" he's going to become one!

Monroe, have not heard that name in awhile. They used to have a goalie that had some kind of a clown mask back in the days of the old city conference previews held at the Auditorium in St. Paul.

Another classic goes down this Friday at Aldrich which is the battle for the Rice St. Cup speaking of Washington, but now it is between Como and the Saints. Usually a good crowd on hand.

Haha yes, very true. The funny part about it being that me saying "not to be a complete dink" brought no resolution to the situation lol.

Ill be a confessions to try and get some redemption.

If I'm not mistaken, the Rice St. Cup was between Washington & St. Bernard's, then it became Como & St. Bernard's, now it's Como & the Saints, correct?

It's just too bad there isn't an arena somewhere on Rice... It'd be so great to be able to to stumble back-and-forth from the rink to Tin Cup for the Rice St. Cup. Oh, that party that would be!

Just uproot Sylvan and put a building there!

Nuety,

Yep looks like slappy.
He's lost a little weight, hasn't he?

Anyway govs, where was Monroe high school located?

My senior year of high school, we played in a Christmas tournament in Grand Rapids.

Teams were us, Duluth Central, GR of course, and St. Paul Monroe.

Monroe had 1 good line with three small forward that were unbelievable.
Also, the goalie was phenomenal.
Anyway, they played GR in the first game and were leading 1-0 about 4 minutes in to the third period.

That quick small first line for Monroe gets a 3 on 2 break and get a really good shot off on the GR goalie.
The puck bounces off the goalies chest in to the air.
The goalie falls inside of the net, and the puck then lands on his chest.
Should have been a goal.
But the refs wave it off and the Monroe coach, and more importantly, the Monroe goalie both are screeming so loudly at the refs that they both get kicked out.

The 2nd string goalie for Monroe is, let's say, not near as good as the starter.

Monroe ends up losing 10-1 in the last about 10 minutes of the game.

Just a little trivia and information on how old I am.

A bad deal for Monroe, obviously.
