Surprise of the Year

Post by boblee »

To this point who is the surprise of the year?

*Roseau-The fact that they are undefeated. It is a surprise to some and not a surprise to others.

*Park Rapids-Obviously a weak schedule, but they are 18-0-0.

*Winona-They are 7-9. Doesn't look too special, but they were 3-21 last season.

*Rochester Century-They are 4-11-1 and took 3rd place in the state last year.

*International Falls-16-1 without Brady Hjelle and Judd Leinum. Did anyone see that coming?

*Bloomington Jefferson-Many didn't expect them to be a factor in 2AA

Others? Throw them in here.

I'll throw in a couple more from up north.

Virginia/MI-B - Lost an NHL draft pick and potential Mr. Hockey candidate in Nico Sacchetti to the USHL, graduated nearly everyone that scored for them last year along with a DI and NHL draft pick Defenseman (Scott Kishel). Yet they are 11-7 and very competetive with the upper level teams despite one of their best returning defenseman being on the bench most of the season injured.

Ely - Not an elite team by any means, but they are 8-7-1 right now coming off of a 1-20 season last year. I think most people had them pegged as an automatic 10 seed and that won't be the case this year.

Hopkins. Especially after losing Fink from their team in the off-season. I doubt anybody thought they would be as good as they have been.

Here's another vote for Hopkins and being led by an 8th grader of all things

Got to agree with Hopkins on the win side of things. I also expected St. Cloud Apollo to be better.
see you at the rink!

Surprise of the Year

Tonka. They have beaten every top team they have played in the PS2 rankings as of 1/22/08:

#1A - STA
#2A - Duluth Marshall

#3AA - Hill
#5AA - BSM
#6AA - Centennial
#7AA - Duluth East
#11AA - Rosemount
#12AA - EP

They still have games left with:
#2 Edina (2 games)
#14 Holy Angels this weekend as they go for the private school SWEEP!

I am suprised with Hopkins so far this year being 16-1-1. Also, Tonka is doing better than i expected coming into the season, i knew they were gonna be a good team but didnt expect them to be a top 3 team right now.

Must be one of those private school maps that us normal folk don't have the privilege of using.

And there are those that would say I do not use my brain or, perhaps, do not even possess one.

On the up side, I would say Brainerd and Mankato West.
