Roseville v Mounds View 1/26/08
The always capable but inconsistent Raiders play host to the Mustangs who are coming off a win over Stillwater. Will Mueller and the boys be able to score more than 1 goal in the last minute of regulation (last time they matched up) or will Civello be too much this time?

Moundsview was outplayed and outcoached. Moundsview has had 3 players quit since the last time they played Roseville. Mueller is deadly with the puck and they knew that from the last time, when he scored on a penalty shot to win a scoreless game. Huge difference in coaching and methods and it showed tonight. MV has been counting on the goalie all season and he has been there- they gotta put it in the net. Didn't help to be careless in their zone. Tonight was the first real whooping they've had all season. Ouch! According to their website the head coach had only 1 season coaching experience before he came to MV and that was at Augsburg. He may have played at the college level and also at White Bear for high school. Did he sound good on paper? Being a good player doesn't make you a good coach- (doesn't make you a bad one either). Something needs to be done for the future of the program & so they don't lose any more players especially the 10th graders. Next year Civello will be gone and those 10th graders and their Bantam coach are the best hope for a future.

I would agree with fffhockey. I know MV doesn't have a ton of talent but you have to come up with a better game plan than that against a very good RV team. I know there old coach has been at a lot of there games even though hes coaching at another high school but I'm sure he would love to take his shot with these guys. He seemed pretty pissed off tonight and he's not even on the bench.
From what I hear- the kids and parents would be thrilled I think that would ensure some confidence with the program for the kids coming back for 08-09. The current coach is probably a great guy- but I don't think
his coaching philosophy/methods are working. Hope they don't put their upcoming talent at the mercy of these methods for the next couple of years. They had a great season last year. There may not be any superstars there, just some good hardworking players that deserve a shot with a coach who knows how to coach them.

This thread is starting to sound like the Stillwater one where everyone is saying off with the Housley's head.
If anyone thought that MV was going to win this game because they had superior talent, the old Arden Hills ammo plant must have poured a lot of lead into the Moundsview water system. The Stangs have relied heavily upon Cievello to eck out the wins that they have.
MV ran into a hard working Raider squad that has the talent to pull off big wins. When Rsvl is on, they can play with the best of em. When they are off, well, saying they are way off really doesnt capture it. They have been the poster child for this year's unpredicatable SEC.
Mueller added to his personal hat collection and a number of other Raiders also got into the action. In spite of what I thought was some lackluster officiating, the Raiders not only controlled the scoreboard but they dominated much of the action. Rsvl gave their fans a glimpse of what they are capable of when they work hard, head man the puck, and play solid between the pipes. It's a good time to start gelling now that the season is working its way into the home stretch.
ps- I think I smell mvhockey12 burning over there...

I talked to a couple of guys on the team and they said that roseville played extremely well and mv played terrible. Everytime a mv guy got the puck there was a raider waiting to hit him and steal the puck away. Tough loss for my boys tonite, they were flying high after their win over stillwater but tonite definatly put a dent in the sails. I hope they can rebound next week and get back to their strong defensive ways.
Savvy2631- just to update you, Alt didn't even play with them last year- he played at Cretin as a freshman. They lost Wolter- and sure they miss him, but he was not their whole team last year. Mueller is great, but Roseville wouldn't be able to do it without the rest of the team either. The list is long of those who leave MV to play private, they have to do the best with what they have. Hats off to RV on the victory.

I think the big picture is that no one coach is going to come in and turn this program around in a couple of years and get them to state. The one thing I know is that they can not continue to have players leave and expect to win. That is the one thing I think the old coach fffhockey is talking about would bring a change to the program. Players really seem to want to stay and play for him. I know some of the parents at the school he's at know and they say that the kids just love his intensity. I hope MV will finish strong.

It's hard to get over having lost Nitti when he, in my opinion, did a better job at coaching his kids than the coach now is doing. This coach now is a pushover and doesn't show any discipline for those who talk back to him and that's not right. This year could be the year to make something happen for mv hockey, even though it wont be spectacular, but it should be an improvment, especially if they win in a section game for once and get placed in a spot other than the 8 or 9 seed.

I agree with you again. Lets finish out the season and see what takes place with the coaching staff. I actually called the old batam coach today and told him to check out this post. Maybe we can get him back over. I know he had a lot to say about the game last night and some of the others he checked out. Lets stay behing our Mustangs and see what happens.fffhockey wrote:No one is talking about going to state. I'm talking about pride in playing, and giving it all you've got.
