BSM vs. Shattuck- 2/1/2008
I've got Benilde by 2.
BSM has no chance*. Took a quick look at SSM's schedule, and it looks like the only teams they've lost to in the last couple of months are European... Not even Benilde has that kind of recruiting range.
SSM by 4.
*It should be noted that I said the same thing about AHA vs. SSM last season and looked like a complete idiot when AHA controlled most of the game, so take this for what you will.

It's Shattuck's call. They don't have to play anybody they don't want to in the MSHSL - we should be lucky they opt to play AHA, BSM, Blake, and the like from time-to-time. It is fun for those of us that are into the MSHSL games, but if I were running the show at SSM, I don't think I'd want much more than those couple of games every year - if that - no good can come from it. The games don't count for anything, kids could get hurt, and if you lose, it's black eye on the program.hockeyxprt1 wrote:Why isn't anyone playing Shattuck this year with the exception of BSM (I think)? It makes for a fun spectator match regardless of the outcome. I'm surprised that more teams don't get involved.
It's a lose-lose for them no matter how they slice it.

Shattuck-St. Mary's
Heat, I remember asking myself the same question when J.P. Parise left the Twin Cities for Faribault to be a part of the hockey program. That was about 15 years ago. I remember saying at the time, "why on earth would anyone go to a boarding school for hockey...ESPECIALLY in Minnesota!?""hockeyfan43 wrote:WHAT KINDA KIDS PLAY AT SHATTUCK?
Turns out I was way off. It took being on the other side of the coin to 'get it'.
Good players in most of the country don't have an easy time finding other good players for teams. There is tremendous demand. Again, not really needed in Minnesota.
I talk frequently with a family that is considering multiple options for their Bantam-age son. Every one of them is more expensive than what I believe Shattuck runs. ($35,000 annually for school, hockey, and travel I think.)
So to answer your question, good hockey players from around the United States that are willing to place it above all else in their lives.
I'll credit J.P. and those behind the Shattuck program for being visionaries. They definitely knew what they were doing.
Be kind. Rewind.
