How about the board takes some action on important items like, 4 hour rule, standard period times for all levels, the D4/D8 mess, HEP. MN Hockey is the supreme ruler, the board needs make decisions that won't be popular with everyone.

Elliott,

Well now that we've all given our input, and the meetings have happened, what went on in the meetings? Did any of the concerns brought up on this forum get addressed or even discussed? Would love an update.

Not a whole lot got discussed by the time we got to this committee...
So another meeting will be held for the steering group, which for me sux as I have another drive to the cities. It like Big Ben, the cogs turn slowly behind the face of te clock.

But all will have this stuff in hand plus some old stuff I have that I hope they read.

Not much of an update, but what we went through was not that exciting, but I guess it was necessary.

Elliott Is the Bureaucracy getting in the way of getting anything done? How much time do they spend on these issues regarding the direction of youth hockey. Shouldn't the board be the main vehicle driving the direction youth hockey.
It seems like the board may need to change it's focus other wise the private groups and AAA groups will start grabbing for the wheel.
What do you think, sometimes being in the metro area a person is to far into the fire to see if there is anything being damaged. Are there any issues you feel need to be address in the short term or can all these issues be resolved with the long term planning.

I would like to have seen longer work sessions, earlier on.
The 'process' we are using is moving slowly.
Some think that moving slowly is okay, but there are some of us that are more action orientated with a results mind-set.
Some are afraid of acting without getting more inforamtion (feedback from stakeholders). I try to get opinions from people everyday and then form my own and use that for my basis of change. If it does not work or is not liked by the majority, then I step aside and give some one else a crack at it.

I would like to resolve some issues - private school affiliates, waiver process, a formula for assiging associations to districts to allow for competitive balance, administratvie numbers, travel and long-standing rivalries, and finally defining assocaitions with how to establish, split, seek rememdies.
None of that has any real direct bearing on me, but on most of the other districts. I would think there would be some sense of urgency, especially after Lakeville's request and Buffalo's long-standing desire to change.

MOVING SLOW????????????????? well after 15 years of talk of redistricting, why should it go any faster, heres what will happen , more talk and more talk , wasted trips, threaten lawsuits, more talk , then less talk , then new directors and we start all over again, every 3-5 years, why should it change,
I credit you Elliot for triing but there is just to much DEAD weight with votes on the Mn Hockey board. As for Buffalo and Lakeville , well just get use to it, by the way I see neither of these two lighting up the standings, so the excuse of competition that both use can nullified, and as for the travel well there is other associations in each district that have to travel farther than these . So i could sum up any talk about just these two associations IS a waste of MN Hockey,s time, But can be used in the larger picture for everyone just not these two

This is how teams should be and keep it that way.

Playoffs for Each League. District 4 playoffs (how D6 runs it with 8 teams Double Elim.)

Champion Go's to regionals

District 8 Southeast

Top 8 teams in post season + top 2 teams in Central Division taking the 9th & 10 seed.

9th & 10th team of Southeast division taking the remaining spots in Central Division. Hudson only go's if team opts out or odd # of teams.

Example playoffs

Southeast Division

1.Woodbury
2.Eagan
3.Rochester #1
4. Lakeville S.
5. Lakeville N.
6. Sibley
7.Rosemount
8. Hastings

9. Faribault
10. Rochester#2 Won seeds for finish 1 & 2 in Central

Central Division

1.SSP/IGH Finished last 2 spots moves to Central Division for playoffs
2. Cottage Grove

3. Winona
4. Redwing
5. Farmington
6. Austin
7. Owatonna
8. Northfield

Champion plays 3rd place team in southeast bracket for chance to go to regionals.

Top 2 teams in Southeast go to regionals.

This is better then coach's seeding teams and gives better competition to each playoff. Switching bottom teams from top teams in each division.

As far as travel is concerned teams could play on Neutral site. Example New prague vs Luverne play somewhere in between. schedule 2 games same day . Mankato plays New prague and Luverne plays New Ulm same site then teams play one of the other teams at the same rink 4 hours later & 5 hours for the other game. This saves on travel and Tournaments use same format so what is difference.

Elliot,

I'm sorry to hear you are frustrated with the bureaucracy. The lack of movement/progress/getting anything done at Minnesota Hockeys Winter Meeting has given me the impetus to resurrect the Summer Meeting Minutes from the MTA.......

When posted are the meeting minutes going to have a similar theme as those below?? Its kinda ironic but allot of the themes in the satire below actually came up as issues in the post you started "Comments to Mn Hockey Board"

Minnesota Tag Association
Monthly Meeting Minutes
July 10, 2007

Camp Snoopy Conference Room

Board Members Present: Bozo, Ronald McDonald, Blinky, Buttons, Harpo, Jingles, Spanky, Elli, Pogo

Associations Represented: All

Officer Reports
President: Ronald McDonald

· Thanked everyone for coming.

Treasurer/Administration: Jingles

· Only $551,000 in the bank. We will need to raise registration fees and add a legal fee.

· Buttons requested $50 reimburesment for make up. Spanky agreed

· Remind all Districts to complete their registration. WE need our monies ASAP!!

Registration: Blinky

· Shut up Jingles!

· There is a change in the competitive levels this year. Instead of TAG levels based on a July 1 to June 30 calendar year, this year its June 1st to May 31st. Bozo’s boys just could not compete against those 7 Dwarf brothers whose birthdays were in July. Now he can be the star! Go jr Bozo!

· All parents will be required to review with their kids and sign the waiver that states “Only ½ of 1% of all players ever make it to the big leagues”. Remember we can’t have our players dreaming of the big leagues and striving to be the best they can.

· Team selection will be based on the Ennie, Meanie, Miny Mo meathod within age groups. All teams are "A" teams

· Move ups are not allowed you must play within your age level. One is not better than another.

Equipment-Spanky

· All players and coaches must wear helmets, elbow and knee pads for all practices and games of TAG. No bumps and scrapes on our little ones knees and elbows.

· All players must have the Blaze orange “STOP” patch securely fastened to the front of their shirts and the back of their shorts. The chest and buttocks area are off limits for tagging. Pogo's boy has been accused of trying to cop a feel or two during co-ed games. We cannot afford a sexual misconduct lawsuit! Added legal fee!

Player Development- Buttons

· 4 to 1 Practice to game ratio

· You cannot play more than 2 games of TAG in a day and no more than 35 in a season.

TEP( TAG Educational Program) -Harpo

· New this year. TEP points will be awarded to teams for good sportsmanship when after a game of TAG they all hold hands and sing “Ring around the rosie”

Supervisor of Officials-Pogo

· All games of TAG must be supervised and refereed by a TAG certified referee that looks younger than 12 or older than 70.

New TAG Business-Elli

· Beanie McMean has opened up a new private TAG facility in Edina. He is starting up a Choice TOT TAG program. This program boasts 70+ hours of training and 20+ games of TAG.

· Elli on the record “ Give me 12 kids, a lemonade stand and a park and I will develop players better than Beanie McMean”

· The rest of the clowns…… “ we are doomed”, “what are parents thinking”, “this changes the game of TAG forever”, “ there just TOTS!” “ They’ll never make it to the big leagues”

Motion to adjourn by Bozo. Clowns....I won it, you 2 it I three it, you four it, I five it, you six it, I seven it and you ate it!!. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
