??? Edina ???

Not ripping them here cause I know they are one of the best teams in the state, just extremely surprised to see a few of the point totals.

Matt Leer (Sr.) - 5 points
Casey Gaarder (Sr.) - 8 points

Earlier in the year I know they were both playing with Anders Lee, is this still the case?

You would think with all of the talent on that team, Lee scoring on their line, Gleason scoring from D, and power play time that these 2 would "stumble" onto a few more points. What is going on with these 2? Is Lee getting all of his points on the power play with all those Juniors?
Will this unbalanced scoring hurt them in their end of the season run?

Part of the issue may be that Leer spends 2/3 of the game in the box, but where are you getting those numbers? I've seen Edina 3 times, and I think one of the Gaarders had about 8 points in those 3 games combined. Maybe I'm getting Casey & Connor confused.

Guru, you are correct.

To start the year one line was Leer-Lee-Casey and the other "top" line was Budish-Marshall E.-Connor.

Lee scored off the bat but little since.

I'm told lines are different now. I'm not sure if it is Taft with Leer and Casey or what, but I'll see for myself Thursday.

One friend says Leer and Lee are both fine players with skillsets that don't complement each other real well. The team, and both individually, are probably better off split.

I don't think they've busted up Budish-Everson-Gaarder. That one has been lethal.

Many a good player does not have a lot of points.
And I believe it's not the best stat to judge the quality of a player.
Obviously fwds. in most cases should have many more points then D players after all that is their job...score.
I would question where the stats are coming from as well as it seems low.

I've been wondering what happend to Leer. I bet he had more points as a sophmore than he does now. He used to park his big body in front of the net and get a lot of goals there. What are they doing differently these days?

I think it's a coin flip game. Budish vs Ness. Would be a great one to watch. I do think the edge in goal goes to Roseau though, and that will probably tip the scales in their favor.

Leer Scored most of his goals sophmore and junior year because he had matt reber setting him up every game. i dont think he has the chemistry that he and reber had with any of the younger kids.

If they meet? I'll take the Hornets.
IMO I think Edina is deeper, they played an overall tougher schedule, and it will show when/if the time comes.

Goal tending....... both have quality between the pipes. So it will come down to who gets more scoring opportunities, and this is where I think Edina has the edge, because if you start matching player for player I believe the Rams run out of quality before the Hornets do.JMHO

Either way it would be a hell of a hockey game!

I think Edina should be able to take Roseau. Roseau has good depth, but I think Edina has the best depth in the state. I think Roseau has a strength in their continuing ability to hammer an opponents defense, but a weakness against an opponent's offensive push. Ness is great, but trying to handle Budish, Everson, and Gaardner is a task that is too much for the states' top defensive recruit.

As for Leer, I think his contribution has been more than his points reflect, have you watched players try to reduce his impact on the ice? haha Leer just kills anybody who gets near him

I totally understand some players just not having much chemistry with other players......which MAY be the issue in this case.

I was not questioning either one of those players talent, and truthfullly I have not seen either enough to make my own assesment, points are not everything but those numbers are hard to ignore and they show a definite issue.

Seems the thread has shifted somewhat to Roseau vs Edina so I will chime in. Ness is unbelievable!!! Roseau is very talented and in my opinion have the edge in the nets which can be vital. I give the edge to Edina for 2 main reasons: Edina's schedule prepares teams for post season, breeds consistency and competitiveness. Skill and speed wise it can be argued that both teams are fairly equal, but how can Roseau & Ness defend Edina's size? Battles in the corner, power play, front of nets. Buddish, Co. Gaarder, Everson, Leer, Lee, Ca. Gaarder, etc are all over 6 feet tall and close to 200 pounds or more. Would love to see this matchup regardless of the outcome.

P.S. Ive seen Buddish listed at 215 pounds, this looks to be about 20 pounds off as he looks like he weighs 240. Anyone have accurate knowledge on this? Buddish and Liegakos from Elk River are the 2 biggest players I have seen in the state thus far.......Fienhage from Eastview wasnt small either.

Neither Edina nor Roseau has an easy road to state and even if they get there, there a lot of tough teams hitting on all cylinders right now.

By the way, who was stand out favorite last year at the tourney? How did place last year?

O-Town:

Current lines are Budish-Everson-Co. Gaarder. Lee with Epple and Taft and Leer with Ca Gaarder and Macdonald. The team has been very top heavy in scoring with 74 of their total 93 goals being scored by Everson 30g Lee 20g Budish 14g and Co. Gaarder 10g Edina will need to find a more balance production from their other players come sections and state to reach their goal. I would expect the Minnetonka game will dictate how much more tinkering with the lines Edina does before sections. Where you talking about Anders Lee scoring little of late???

Thanks for sharing the lines. I recall Lee had 5 goals right away and then went on a slide. Maybe it was more middle of the year than "of late". Whatever it was, I was thinking he started like a house afire and then cooled.

Great matchup, but Roseau is too tough. To much pressure on the Edina boys. We'll see how they do tonight against Tonka. Roseau is better than both Tonka and the Hornets.....Roseau has the easiest road to the tourney and will be ready. The Lake schools will have 2 tough games in the Sections just to make it. My Hockey Final Four: Roseau, Burnsville, Rosemount and Tonka.

Leer is more focused on the big hit, than the back of the net.
His father is focused on not needing a microphone, now that one isn't affixed to his lapel.

Poor priority setting is, apparently, a family trait.
