1AA section seedings

Post by Jethrotull »

This is how things are shaping up.

1 - Farmington
2 - Lakeville North
3 - Mayo
4 - Lakeville South
5 - Owatonna
6 - Dodge County
7 - JM
8 - Winona
9 - Century

Top bracket will be 1 vs 8/9, 4 vs 5
Bottom bracket 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6

My guess in the quarter final's is Farmington beating Lakeville South and Lakeville North beating Mayo. Coin toss on the North vs Farmington game.

Wow Tull, may have to stick to playing the synthesized flute...

No respect for the Spartans. Like the Big Nine schedule better than the Missota, but have to give North the edge in playing the Lake, yet they got beat up in conference.
North's one goal win over Mayo was tight, I was there, could have gone either way and it took place in December.
Pretty tight but here is how I see playing out...

1 - Lakeville North (3-2 Win over Mayo, overall tougher schedule)
2 - Mayo
3 - Farmington
4 - Lakeville South
5 - Owatonna
6 - Dodge County
7 - JM
8 - Winona
9 - Century

I could see a flipping of one & two here also...

Mayo

Post by Jethrotull »

Not to disrespect Mayo in any way. They have proved they can play with the big girls. It is based on the win/loss record of head-to-head competition. Farmington beat and tied LN and LS once each. That should rank them on top. Mayo did have a few let downs, tying Owatonna is one of them so they slip down a bit. No need to worry, #2 and #3 are equal rankings in the playoffs.

With all due respect, but WOW, when you lay out this Section it hits you that the winner and subsequent State Tournament participant would probably not finish higher then in the middle of the pack of the other 7 sections. Leaving 20+ more deserving teams who won't experience the thrill. All's I can say is have fun and good luck, but WOW.

What does that comment mean? Like you think there are more teams that deserve to go than any of the teams in Section One. Gimme a break. If you have issues take them up with the MSHSL and leave it off this forum.

Section 1AA has proven over the years they can't play with the better teams.

I think their record at the state tournament these last 5 years is 1-14.

And that was when Mayo was "strong."

I bet Section 1AA doesn't win a State tournament game this year either.

If I lose I promise not to post anything for a year.

If I win want all the Rochester Schools to combine into one team so that a good team that can compete comes out of the section next year.

I think down the road a ways Lakeville could have some very good teams.

You are right, deserving was the wrong word to use. Under the current system any team that wins section 1AA is more then deserving. What I should have said is that there are 20+ stronger teams, that actually have a chance of winning (and I being generous). So sorry if I miscommunicated my views.

Oh by the way, why do I need to leave it off the forum? It's just an opinion, and a quite valid one at that. If you don't like it just point your little mouse to the little X in the corner and press enter. It will all go away and you can go back to your happy place.

MnHockeyFan is right, Lakeville will be very strong in two years and beyond.
Lakeville U10A & U12A are very strong. U12A (Under 12) is currently ranked #2 in state, and the U10A squad is very good.
Once you put numbers of players and money in youth programs into the mix, success follows at the high school level.

Mayo:
Blake 2 Mayo 1 late 3rd period kick-in goal
Centennial 2 Mayo 1 OT
Duluth 3 Mayo 2 Mayo outplayed them 2nd & 3rd

My point; Mayo can play w/ other teams in state

Don't be too surprised if we don't hear from you until next February, Clueless

By the way...

I would love to see a combined Rochester squad! :D

AKA: North Metro, PDH, Duluth, St. Cloud Icebreakers

Please talk to the MSHSL and the Big Nine on that for me, and get back to me...

Makin state

Post by Jethrotull »

If you want to complain about who makes it to state and who doesn't you better get in line. The line stretches back about 60+ years. With that said the MHSL is not interested in getting all the best teams to state. They want the hottest teams at the end of the season from 8 geographical sections in multiple classes. Been this way for a long time and if you don't agree with it then get in line again. May the best team at the end of the season win it all. FYI - 1AA dominates many sports, just because hockey is not their strong suite right now does not make them a target for all the cheap shots. My bet is you will all be eating crow in a few short years as Farmington, Lakeville and Rochester all start to dominate AA hockey.

St. Cloud also has St. Cloud Tech, plus Sartell-Sauk Rapids just outside of town...

Duluth is the best example of what could happen if Rochester were to combine into one team. They would obviously be greatly improved, but the big disadvantage is that only about one-third as many girls would get to experience high school varsity hockey, which doesn't exactly help grow the sport.

No, your right MnHockeyFan

I wouldn't want to take opportunity away from any boys or girls playing high school sports.
Those years for me were some of my fondest memories of growing up. The same is true today. I know my daughters love playing sports with their friends and schoolmates. It hasn't changed.

But, just the thought of combining the talents from other city schools...
Never happen, just as well!

Go 1AA!

Just a note, 1AA will have a hard time this year with some of the top end teams, but they won't be afraid to compete!

Here are the seedings for 1AA:

1AA

#1 Farmington H.S.
#8 or 9 Winona Or Rochester Century

#4 Lakeville South H.S.
#5 Owatonna H.S.

#2 Rochester Mayo H.S. :D
#7 Rochester John Marshall

#3 Lakeville North H.S. (H)
#6 Dodge County

Good Luck to all! :)

Tull, you were right, Farmington got the one w/ strong showings against North & South...

Seeds

Post by SEhockeyDAD »

I'm a little surprised that Mayo went #2 and Lakeville N. #3, as head-to-head went to Lakeville N. Essentially, the difference is that the JM girls drive 10 minutes to the away game instead of a bus ride to Lakeville. Dodge County goes to Lakeville instead of Rochester, though.

I'm guessing the Lakeville S./Owatonna game is a close one. Good luck to all teams.

North has lost 6 of the last 9 down the stretch. The last loss is to Jefferson, which is seeded last in its section... That is probably the reason for Mayo #2 in the coaches minds...

#2-#3

Post by Jethrotull »

Yep, Lakeville North lost a few games they should not have. For the most part they played very good the last 3 weeks. Getting a 3rd seed is just as good as the second seed anyways and we are going to see North play Mayo to get to Farmington. Lakeville (Elko) South should beat Owatonna again but they are fighting some injuries and they need to stay out of the box. I believe #10 leads the state in penalty minutes. If Farmington comes with their "A Game" they should blank Elko South. Mayo had by far the easiest schedule the last 3 weeks. They finished well beating teams ranked in the cellar of AA. Sections will be a huge step up for them. Not being able to beat any of the top 50 AA Metro teams this year leaves them as a big question mark.

Elko South

Post by Jethrotull »

Elko (Lakeville) South lost a good player in the win over Owatonna on Friday night. Without Dahlberg on defense, Elko will be at a disadvantage against Farmington on Tuesday.

Update on Mayo

Mayo is having problems finishing.
Played very well outshooting JM 45-7 in game, 21-1 in 0-0 1st period tie, the girls forechecked JM into submission, but could not finish. JM goalie also played very well!

Looks like North destroyed Dodge Co as expected

Mayo must find ways of putting the puck in the net, or it will definitely be a North - Farmington Final in 1AA :(

Semi's and finals are in Owatonna. That Lakeville South/Owatonna game went into 2 OT's. Must have been intense. I honestly thought Owatonna might win it, but the South goalie must have had a good night. Anyone know where Lindsay Kauchik went to? She's always been a real good goalie going back to selects, and I see she's not on the South roster.

Her dad (Scott) helped coach at Eastview last year, but I'm not sure he still does.

Farmington Beat Lakeville South 2-0, and I heard Mayo beat Lakeville North in OT 4-3 after coming from behind 3-0.

Now it will be Farmington vs. Mayo on Saturday.

By the way, the Tigers 8th grade goalie, played 14 games for Farmington this year since December and she has won 12 of them. Tonight makes her third shut out in a row although she did not see too many shots in the last few games.

Mayo!

Post by DmanDad1980 »

What a game in Owatonna! Just got home...

Mayo did not start out well at all, North scored on three of their first seven shots  Murphy is a good goalie, off tonight...
But Mayo started dominating in the second, even though they were down 3-0 after two periods. North started to tire and Mayo controlled play.
Then it was over, Mayo outshot North 11-0 in the third, tying the game at 3-3 w/ 20 seconds to play. Mayo missed so many opportunities in the third, but got three!
Leading scorer, MG, poked check puck from defense, scored late in 1st OT :D
Shots by period:
Mayo 4 - 10 - 11 - 3  28
North 6 - 5 - 0 - 1  12

Go Spartans! 8)
