BCS ESPN/USA Today Rankings of all time

Post by eyeinthesky »

BCS Top 15 All Time Hockey schools
note* some numbers might be off by 1 or 2, I'm not perfect! got them from the minnhock front page

Rank School State Tourny 1st 2nd 3rd
#1 Roseau 31 7 5 3
#2 Edina with Edina East 28 9 3 1
#3 International Falls with co-op 19 7 2 4
#4 St. Paul Johnson 22 4 3 3
#5 South Saint Paul 28 0 2 6
#6 Eveleth with co-op 15 7 2 4
#7 Bloomington Jefferson 16 5 0 3
#8 Warraod 18 4 5 2
#9 Hill-Murray 21 2 6 2
#10 Duluth East 15 3 3 5
#11 Grand Rapids 14 3 5 2
#12 Greenway with co-op 9 3 0 2
#13 Minneapolis Southwest 15 1 2 2
#14 White Bear Lake 17 0 0 0
#15 Hibbing 12 2 1 5

Also Recieving Votes (no particular order):

Burnsville 8 3 1 1
Thief River Falls 10 2 1 1
Moorhead 10 0 6 2
Academy of Holy Angles 5 2 0 1

I was bored and thought I'd try and whip up something fun to talk about. I just factored in these categories and went with what I thought would be an accurate order. In no way are these rankings facts or serious. I just thought it would be a fun idea to throw down on the message board and see what everyone had to think about it.

I'd have to throw Burnsville and Moorhead ahead of White Bear Lake on your list. Burnsville dominated in the 80's and Moorhead has been to the State Tournament more than any other team over the last 15 years I believe, even though they have ZERO championships. WBL's 0-17 placing in the top 3 was the deciding factor for me.

Other than that, you compiled a pretty solid list.

How about showing the list from when private schools were allowed to participate in the tournament? Also, since public schools seem to dominate this list, what's all the complaining about private schools? :?

one runner-up

Mariner was runner-up in '82. You can tack that on to the WBL total just like you merged Edina East with Edina. Seems fair to me.
Be kind. Rewind.

There's still only one team undefeated in the state tournament!

It's Centennial. Only been there once and put on a VERY impressive display. I believe they are the only team ever to reach 30 wins in a season as well.

You are correct, its the city of Centennial.

They beat the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ranked teams for the title. All shutouts.

I think you did a great job here. Things I would change, Pull down Roseau a tad, Bump up Edina and Jefferson, and Bump up Burnsville. I think one key element you forgot to include is all-time record. Add that stat and you can get a better picture of who has lasted the test of time, (I.E. Roseau, Edina, Jefferson, Hill-Murray) Rather than those who just dominated a small period of time....

Centennial is a city now? I thought it was a school district, but what do I know, I am from SE Minnesota where we obviously only know things about cows, pig feed, and wrestling.

Neut originally said what TEAM, not city... the whole city thing came from ER assuming it was a city.

i dont know how to copy peoples responses so ill have to write them

A poster said something about White Bear Mariner....I totally agree with you, i completely forgot about them, my bad.

the International Falls question about their co-op....I was under the impression that they are included with Little Fork and Big Falls, would that not make them a co-op?

Another guy asked about private schools......I believe Hill is the only one that should be on there. Yes BSM has 2 titles but only 2 appearences, then i should put Centennial and other teams like that on there. Blake has gone only about 3 or 4 times. Breck has won 2 times but only about 4 appearences, but that is class A, AHA I put on there because of the AA standard. CDH has only gone 2 times with 1 win.....STA 3 times 1 win.......Duluth Marshall is relatively new at competing in hockey. You have to remember, private schools have not been that popular or competetive at hockey unitll the last 6 or 7 years. Hill is the only one that has competed over time.

Hill is the only private who has had stay power. They have been a force for decades. Back in the day privates were in a seperate league, and at that time they were significantly worse than the city publics and schools popping up in the burbs. Now things have change, and they are top competition (Hill again, being the exception because they have always been good). Private school power is a phenomenon of just the last decade and to early to tell if its just a fluke (look at how mighty AHA is doing).
