Duluth East @ Superior 2/11

Post by houndshockey11 »

East is hot right now and Superior has been a flukey team recently losing to lowly Proctor and then beating top-ranked Duluth Marshall.

I'm expecting a tough game on both sides, but in the end, the Hounds D will take this game away.

East : 3
Superior : 1

Going into the third.

Renier has the goal for DE.
Pat Dalbec and John LeDoux for Superior.

Typical East game.. out shooting Superior 30 something to 10.

East about to go on the power play. Still 3-2 Hounds. Superior taking two penalties, one for elbowing and a bench minor? Fleisch and Hack are trying to figure it out. East taking a timeout with 4:58 to go

East comes up empty on the 5x3. Kyle Johnson shuts East down, under 3:00 left.

Superior can't get Johnson off the ice, under 30 seconds left.

0:22 left, East tying up the puck, and.........East wins!

An odd win for the Greyhounds. They had about a million scoring chances but really struggled to put it in the net (some credit to the Superior goalie, who made some great saves). The first goal by Superior was the biggest garbage goal I have ever seen. The puck is cleared into the East end, more or less on net. A Superior player is bearing down on net, and Cooper, instead of covering the puck, pushes it right out to him. The pleasantly surprised Superior kid flips it into the net. Superior's other goal came on a 5-on-3 PP. Not East's best effort, but better this comes now than in Sections.

Karl I kinda of disagree with your comment that East didnt have their best effort. I thought the boys hustled hard tonite and dominated the game throughout much of it. East needs to convert more than they are but hopefully this will come around in the next couple of games as they build momentum entering Sections. They really played hard tonite and used the body very effectively. They also came from behind and took care of the task at hand. Go Hounds

I do agree that they played hard tonight. I think they just had a little struggle early on putting those scoring chances away. Although they had this trouble scoring, I think they just outplayed and outhustled the spartans tonight. 41 shots on net too? Not bad. Reiner really had a good game too. His goal... insane. Steals it, fakes two guys out, buries it. Ridiculous. Some big hits in this game too, and the fan sections threw a few cheers back and forth. Good game overall.
