Oldtimer - You are correct. It should be a great one! Congrats to AV on the win last night..Great game.

I did not like that ref - even though he did a pretty good job by himself..He did miss a couple offsides. He kept telling the players to bring him the puck on a icing or something, so he didn't have to skate has far...?? Like it was the players duty or something. Not sure what, but I didn't like seeing that, esp in a playoff game.

Curious about this one Superstar. There was only 1 ref for the AV vs. Tonka play-off game? Without being there and not totally understanding what you saw, I can only assume what you are saying. If in fact the game only had 1 ref, then yes I could see him having players chase the puck down. I’m sorry but it sounds as though the implication is that he was lazy with the statement “so he didn’t have to skate as far”. I have say he was likely trying to conserve energy as well as keep the game moving with regard to time. I reviewed the play off schedule and I would be willing to bet he had 2 games back to back, AV vs. Tonka was the first of 2 games scheduled.

Going into a play off game there are a couple of things to consider. First off, the officials that are selected are senior refs who know game management, as well has having been exposed to many different situations including covering games single-handed. Second no one wants to miss an off sides, but more importantly no one wants to miss a goal or no goal call because he is back on the blue line and out of position. When you cover a game single handed (especially a PeeWee A playoff game) it can be extremely stressful and exhausting. Fetching the puck by players is a good move, although it may be a little demeaning for the players (this is where the coaches come in and support the management of the game). Remember the puck moves faster when passed vs. skating it; same applies for delays for face offs when you have a single ref.

It must have really sucked to be faced with having to call a game single handed with so much at stake. I am sure, the District Ref, scheduler, and the single ref. Were all extremely mad. I trust that the second game had 2 refs as I am sure there where phone calls going out to find a replacement ref. I am sure I will see an e-mail come out today to all of the district refs about this issue. As I stated earlier, the refs that are selected to do these games are senior refs as such I would be curious to know what happened with the second ref for the game. These guys know the importance of communicating delays to the scheduler as well as their partner. I would love to know about this story, I am sure the coaches are aware of what happened, did you hear any reasons why there was only 1 ref?

I'll take Apple Valley 3-2 in at least one OT. Just a feeling.

Hiptzech - Sounds like you are a Ref or you might have been the ref last night! Guess what - I have been a ref before - I know how it goes.

I never said he did a bad job, did I..? I said he did a pretty good job - missed a couple offsides - But 3 refs on the ice can miss a offsides too.

The guy is getting paid. Is it stressful - Yes. Is it alot of work - Yes. Tell the coaches to tell the players - don't start talking with the players about fetching the puck. Hey and skating back and forth is great workout! :) Is he lazy - no. Conserving energy?.. Okay I'll give you that.

Anyways - Should be a good game tonight.

Wow…Must be a miss-understanding here. Just giving a little insight. You have ref’d so you know what I am talking about. I don’t know that I implied that you said he did a bad job. No, I wasn’t the ref last night. Yes, I am a ref. Again, I was trying to get a little more insight as to what happened while providing a little insight to the job of ref’ing a tough situation.

It appears that you are not happy about the situation. I am not making excuses for the ref last night or the guy that was a no show. It was an unfortunate situation.

I, like you agree tonight’s game should be a good one. I would love to be there, unfortunately I have a couple of games to do tonight so I will miss it. Enjoy the game….

senior refs??????

Post by mnticketbroker »

hiptzech

the district 6 peewee game on Sunday Prior Lake vs Tonka had two refs.... one of them appeared to be college age. What makes a guy a senior ref? By the way, he looked lost and blew his whistle less than twice...he was still learing the task.
District 6 does not place "senior" only refs for playoff games.
There is no excuse for not having two refs. Hayes arena is minutes away, they could have had someone show up.

I do have a lot of thoughts. But I shouldn't make any predictions. My favorite team is the Black and Red of course, but We haven't played since the WBL tourney and AV looked good last night.

I think it will be only a goal or 2 difference.. 3-1, 4-2, 5-3, 3-2 something like that. Just depends on how the big guns from each team perform and goaltending will be huge.

And staying out of the sin bin.

Couldn't agree more except for favorite colors (Brown & Gold) are mine!

PLAYOFFS WINS = GOALTENDING

Be fun to watch tonight. Alot at stake.

Hayes Arena will be a ROCKIN tonight, that place was packed lastnight.

This game had everything from lead changes to one team taking a lead and the other team scoring to tie it up just seconds later. Both teams had countless chance's. Congrats to E.P. on the comeback win.

FINAL
Chaska - 3
Edina - 0

Oldtimer -I missed the 3rd and OT. Hats off to AV as well. What a game! That what youth hockey is all about. That game could have gone either - all the kids deserve a pat on the back.

Congrats to Chaska! Shutingout the hornets is no easy task...!

district 6 playoffs wed night

Post by mn has a nba team? »

first game was EP vs AV
Great hockey game from the two periods I saw. Referees called a consistent game, and both teams left it all on the ice. AV had a 3 - 1 lead going into the 3rd, EP ties it and took the lead. AV came right back. In OT AV had a puck shoot across the slot and sliding save by EP goalie. Moments later EP picked up a rebound and exhuberation flowed on one end, and the pain came to the forefront on the other. Both goalies were on their A game. This was a fun game... and as a observer it was hard to see one of these teams lose. Parents from both teams were waiting for their child to exit the locker room..... I was taken back by the numerous that could not wait to see their child. Parents from the losing and winning team pulling their kid in and just hugging them and letting them know how proud they were of their player. These same kids, from both teams, just spent a few hours throwing everything they had to make the play. Playing like they cannot feel pain..reminded us that they are just children : a player from one team smiling during the hug, and the player from the other team melting and letting it all out not wanting to let go and parent holding them tight and comforting them...congrats to both teams you truly gave the few hundred fans a great hockey game. It was so loud at the end of regulation one team had a rush up the ice, and the ref and players could not hear the horn go off.

Game 2 : Chaska vs Edina

WOW , What a performance by Chaska's goalie... shot after shot he was in position. It was almost like he knew where the pass was going and who would be the shooter. 3-O shutout, with one being a en.
Chaska owned the 1st period, and much of the 2nd. As expected a good team will come back hard, and Edina did. Despite many powerplays they could not solve the purple wall. Chaska did a good job of going to the net and frustrated Edina early.
A very odd move by the Edina coach, With a few seconds left in the 1st period, Edina's goalie had equipment issue, instead of getting the time out to fix it..Edina just switched goalies.. face off shot...1-0 Chaska.. Equipment fixed in comes the other goalie. That goal should go against the coach and not the kids. Look for Edina to bounce back. The other districts were very close to either having EP or Edina battling to see whom move on to regions, and thus only one going to state as one would have knocked the other out in district 6 playoffs.

Wed night : Hayes arena
game 1 Tonka vs Edina
game 2 Burnsville vs Apple Valley

Thursday night

Game 1 vs Game 2 Wed night winner
and
Chaska vs EP

* this is one tough trny all on its own
