Anyone else Against Ness getting MR. Hockey?
maybe its just me, and you can criticize the hell outta me if it is, but i am against the fact that a junior, skipping his senior year of high school, will probably win Mr. Hockey in MN. Sure he is the best player in the state, but i feel a senior who has hung on with his team for 3+ years should be honored with this prestigous award.

fine with me
Disagree. No argument here if he wins it. There's also a Jake Gardiner lovefest going on so he could win too.
Be kind. Rewind.

Why would you think he is not a senior?
He graduates this spring.
He turns 18 in May.
He will not be in high school next year.
Is he the best player in high school?
Perhaps.
Should he be the winner of Mr. Hockey?
You provided no reason why he should not be.
But I think we should let those that vote decide.

How is he cutting his education short? He's graduating from HS after fulfilling the same requirements as every other kid who gets a diploma?karl(east) wrote:Is Ness the best player in the state? Probably. But I think giving him the award sets a dangerous precedent, saying to players that it's OK to cut short your education for hockey, and this really isn't what's in the MSHSL's best interests.

IMO half these people that think he shouldn't win also think that a kid that plays for their school somehow shouldkarl(east) wrote:Is Ness the best player in the state? Probably. Apparently you know little about the Roseau school district.
Ness will be graduating with a degree that he earned based on work performed within an institution with high academic standards (albeit public

I have to agree with O-townclown. As far as the LOVEFEST I think everyone in Tonka knows why there is sooooo much love in the media. Go Ness.[/quote]

Now this is an opinion worth posting.GR3343 wrote:Not against him winning the award because of the academic thing, but I don't think he should win it this year. Seen him play several times, and he's not deserving of Mr. Hockey. As good as he is, I've seen better this season.
Is he the best HS senior player?
I think he might be, but there are others that I would think would be as good a represenitive of hockey skill within the group of ten that was proposed.

I'm not exactly of the opinion that meeting the bare minimum requirement for graduation is exactly completing an education, but that's getting into an entirely different argument.
And no, I have no ulterior motive for saying these things against Ness...there's no one from East up for Mr. Hockey, nor should there be this year, and I'd be happy to keep the award in the northern part of the state. I just don't think bolting high school early should make someone eligible for an award for which everyone else has had to go through an extra year.
Personally I could have graduated in 3 years if I'd dropped a few electives and schemed it out. I just wonder if more and more players will realize they can do this too, and that's really not in the best interests of Minnesota HS hockey.
