Born vs Made?
Anyone care to share their opinion on this?
Are D1 and/or Pro players born or made?
Your 2 cents.........

Ok I'll give you a real answer. Since you handle humor well!
I don't believe any players are born to greatness, they may be blessed with great athletic ability, but ultimately it is the hard work and the extra effort they put in because of their love of the game, their passion is what drives them to succeed.
If it were any other way they could just put on the skates one day and go!
The difference to me is the player that heads to the weight room, or trains in the off season, and does the extra things..these players have vision and picture themselves succeeding.
Self Made.............not born..that's my 2¢

from my personal experience the D1 and pro caliber players are made. Size and cordination are a big part (and are born), but every player I have seen reach that level has tended to be the hardest worker on the team since mites. Those players push themselves harder, mostly behind the scenes, than the rest of us really understand.

Don't listen to him, he's from Champlin...MNsGreatest#2 wrote:It has to be a mix. You can just make a pro from scratch, but un-fostered talent will not prevail. You need a nice mesh of coaching and talent.

I would for sure say MADE..
I remember when we were younger, it would be all of my age kids in one end of the North Rink playin some Tennis Ball Shinny or whatever.. and down in the far end of the ice would be Aaron Ness and Jay Ness (father) and Jay would be teachin' Aaron things.
At the time (being 9-10 years old) we would have the "well if he doesn't want to play, then whatever then" but now we know what all those 1-on-1 lessons have done for him.
I want to say nice job to Jay for the hours and hours and years and years of work he has put in to help Aaron.
