Adapted Floor Hockey Tournament
I attended the 2008 Adapted State Floor Hockey Tournament this weekend at Jefferson HS. Just wanted to thank all that attended the Boy's Hockey tournament, as I am sure the adapted tournament is subsidized from that revenue. There is admission, program/souvenir sales, and concession stands, but since the audience is primarily parents, friends, and relatives, I am sure it does not defray the costs.
If you haven't been to one, it is a fun event. Some very good hockey. These athletes have trouble doing alot of things in life, but many can really play floor hockey. It is a surprisingly fast, and physical game. They compete until the end, doesn't matter the score. They are disappointed in loss, but are primarily happy to compete.
The PI, or physically impaired (some wheelchairs) was won by Anoka-Hennepin (over Robbinsdale area), and the CI, or Cognitive impaired (all players on foot) was won by Maple Grove (over Dakota United).

From the highlights I've seen from those tournaments, the kids who play that seem to enjoy it a lot more than most other athletes at their respective sports. They could probably teach a few lessons to kids who take it for granted.
I also think there was a period of time in which another St. Paul school - Humboldt - dominated that sport, wasn't there? Maybe it was softball.

Govs, you're right, the Humboldt Hawks had a string of Championships in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Like all sports, it goes in cycles depending upon the available talent, and of course the larger teams have more available talent. Next, I suppose, someone will get the bright idea to have multiple classes.
Packerboy, you know I am with ya in general regarding subsidies, but if the MSHSL is going to collect that much money for a tournament, spending a little so the minor sports can have some resemlance of a tournament, is as good a place to spend it as any,....I guess.
Neut, excellant point! There are some "minor sports" that maybe should be satisfied with what they have been given, not to mention, just have a little common sense. Sometimes, when we get things without having to work for them, it isn't always appreciated,.....which gets us back to PB's point.

This disrespect shown for our beloved statesman President is outrageous.Neutron 14 wrote:
Like Condi describing Dubya's attention span, it only takes this much sense to know that we must support many CI and PI activities. And I applaud all the volunteers who unselfishly supply countless hours of their time.
As far as funds going to support other needed programs , thats fine but maybe the "we" that supports them has to be expanded. The non revenue sports get a free ride from hockey revenue while we pay hundreds of dollars a pop to play hockey. Maybe that should be spread around a bit.
As "W" would say: "I can press when there needs to be pressed; I can hold hands when there needs to be -- hold hands." --George W. Bush, on how he can contribute to the Middle East peace process, Washington, D.C., Jan. 4, 2008
So, there.
I think I saw a little teaser on the CCO news last night about a kid who plays (played) hockey for SCSU who was helping coach one of these teams in St. Paul, but I didn't see the actual story. Anybody know who it is?Neutron 14 wrote:

Be nice to stay on track,.......oh well.
Thanks Govs, for attempting to get us back on track. I didn't see the clip, nor do I know who it may have been.
P.S. Neut seems to be obsessed with "W". We may find him to be a genius compared to any of the three upcoming choices. I thought the 70's economy was gone, but......we may get the 70's back,.....without a single class tournament.
