2008 Meltdown
Anyone know where to find the Meltdown schedules? I checked the Showcasehockey.com and didn't find anything. Did see that the league teams were to get the schedules March 17.

It has been rather quackless lately. I can only imagine how much effort it took to achieve that. Spring is a good thing, the birds are chirping, the dogs are barking, but still no ducks. LIFE IS GOOD. It will be better when taxes are done.... and I get the meltdown schedule
never let it be said that I can't stay on topic!!!!

With the score tied 2-2 late in the second Thunder Bay started to use their sticks as weapons. It worked and took the Flames out of the game.
A couple of examples:
1. Before a face off a Thunder Bay player speared a player in the throat.
2. After a off sides call a Thunder Bay player 2 handed slashed a player over the wrist.
Both times their were penalties and Thunder Bay never contested the calls. I guess thats what they were told to do from their coaches.
Note: The game before they had 3 players ejected.
Thats my definition of a CHEAP TEAM!

I know a lot of those kids and that doesn't sound like the way I've seen them play. Not to say those things didn't happen. I'm wondering what led to them. Was the game chippy both ways?in2hockey wrote:With the score tied 2-2 late in the second Thunder Bay started to use their sticks as weapons. It worked and took the Flames out of the game.

Does that tournament allow body contact? I'm only asking because those kids would have never played with body checking and perhaps their emotions got the best of them.
Having said that, I know there are one or two kids who play a bit over the top. It'd be too bad if a couple of kids had such a negative impression that it reflected on the rest of the team. I don't think, for a moment, that the coaches encouraged it in any way.
what age level was it?
last year a team from thunderbay tripped a kid into the boards, as he took the shot that would have been the tying goal, with one second on the clock. When he got up to join his teammates at the handshake he was met by the largest Thunder Bay player on the ice who, out of sight of the refs who were supervising the handshake, speared him in the abdomen under his chest protector. It was hard enough for the kid to fall to the ice and remain there for many minutes until his coaches helped him off of the ice. It was by far the cheapest thing I have ever saw a kid do on the ice. This was in the open tournament in 2007, so whatever thunder bay team that was.
The worst part is, I was waiting for the next game to start and I got to hear all of the Thunder Bay parents laughing about it. I know there are some very good hockey teams from Thunder Bay, but it sounds like that at least one is ruining the reputation of all of them.

Reply to Cheap Hockey team from Thunder Bay 95's open
I would encourage you to make sure you have your facts straight before you judge anyone. I am sure you were the one standing up in the stands yelling at our parents. First, we did not have 3 kids in one game kicked out in that tournament. There were 2 Thunder Bay teams at the tournament so make sure you have the correct team. The game before you myself and another mom stood with a dad from their team and had a great talk during the game. Unlike our game with you. He commended our team for our talent even though they were loosing by a big score. I would like to remind you of your player who was removed from our game for INTENT TO INJURE. He took our kid out at the knees as he was going full force down the boards. I would also like to say that the comments that your coaches made directly to our players while shaking hands was disgusting! We have taken our share of losses but NEVER have our coaches spoke to children in that manner. THEY ARE KIDS! I have played sport at a high level and I have no problem acknowledging an opposing team for their talented play. This is the example that should be set for our children in this sport. How can they learn how to loose when the parent obviously does not exemplify this to them. I strongly feel that any coach who speaks to a child in any negative manner should not be allowed to coach. So please make sure you have your facts right before you judge 12 and 13 year olds. The rules of the tournament were body contact and that is how we played.
