Giants of Prep Hockey tourney moved to 09
For anyone that was interested in this tourney that was going to be in November, it has been moved to 2009. Supposedly issues coordinating this were too difficult to make it happen this season. Just thought I'd drop a note for those interested.

FYI, This is what they where looking to do:
Coming November 28-29 of 2008, Exceed Hockey Development
will be presenting the ultimate in prep hockey competition. Eight
of the top prep teams in the United States, four from Minnesota
and four out of state programs, will battle each other for bragging
rights.
Minnesota high school hockey has a storied tradition and as
passionate a following as any high school sport in the country.
The Minnesota State High School hockey tournament in March
traditionally attracts well over 100,000 spectators over the course
of three days. The “Giants of Prep Hockey” event will capture and
attract some of this passion by putting some of the best Minnesota
high school squads on the same sheet as out-of-state prep
academies. Teams will compete for regional hockey superiority.
It’s a unique event; there has never been a competition like it!
The event will take place November 28-29, 2008 at Aldrich Arena
in Maplewood, Minnesota. Aldrich Arena is located just north of
the Minneapolis metro area in a hockey rich community. It’s the
site for various attractions and has a seating capacity of over
3,400 spectators. Aldrich Arena is well known as one of the
finest venues for high school hockey in Minnesota. Don't miss
out on this event!

Unique?
Why is this event unique?
This type of "tournament" happens all winter..it's called Midget Major/Minor AAA and Tier 1 hockey.
Yes, Minnesota is very unique, but unless you get high school teams from the Boston (Xavier), Arch Biship Ryan from Philly, and Demarast from DC, you're wasting your time. 99.9% of any "high school" teams from anywhere else won't even be on the ice with an Edina or any other top Minnesota high school team. All the top players around the country not in prep school are playing midgets or juniors.
Now if you're talking about allowing Shattuck's Prep team, Culver Academy, and perhaps a couple New England preps, then you have a solid tournament series.
Just a thought...good luck with this either way and we'll be looking forward to seeing our Minnesota boys.

Re: Unique?
Throw in Catholic Memorial from Boston with the 3 mentioned above vs. Hill-Murray, Edina, Roseau, and St. Thomas Academy and you've got one hell of a tourneyTenoverpar wrote:Why is this event unique?

I couldn't agree more. Although, I think some other teams like Warroad, Hermantown, and Duluth Marshall also should not be allowed.ahastars03 wrote:no st. thomas if your going to make this tourny it should be for AA teams only. AHA had one down year and you forget about them come on they beat the state champs from last year didn't they.
st. thomas gets to go to excel every year because they won't move up don't give them another free tourny.

I put St. Thomas in there because of the A/AA debate. Everyone, including myself, seems to want them to move up to AA. They claim that they shouldn't have to. I'd like to see them play agains the best of the best and, once and for all, end the debate as to whether they are good enough to play AA.ahastars03 wrote:no st. thomas if your going to make this tourny it should be for AA teams only.
