Hockey Night in Boston August 3-8 - Team Minnesota

Post by joehockey »

This years Hockey Night in Boston Girls Showcase is August 3-8 does anyone know the roster for Team Minnesota that is representing the area? Last year it was mostly Thoroughbreds but this year it is being held before the tryouts to form thier team.

I think Marci from CODP is the one of the people in charge of putting togeather team Minnesota for this tournament and I don't think she has her complete roster yet.

If there is one college coach, either D1 or DIII, at this event, I will eat Brookyone's hat. Several of the coaches that I know have rolled their eyes when asked about the talent and attending HNIB. Granted, last year it was run at the same time as the Women's National Festival, and every coach was there watching the U18 Select team, but I think this event is well past its prime and is basically a cash grab.

Thanks Hux saw a few coaches there last year - but mostly prep schools.

There were some U15 and U16 NDP players and the Minnesota Team with the Thoroughbreds was pretty strong. It was a good experience for my daughter and a nice vacation chance to see Boston but there is probably better hockey and other option that have more college interest.

There are certainly quite a few outstanding players at HNIB, but there is a discernible disparity in talent across the board and the huge rosters result in limited ice time. (IIRC the Vannelli led team last year had a much smaller roster than the HNIB constructed teams)

The HNIB showcase uses tryouts to build their teams, and were they to limit the roster size to 9F, 6D and 2G I think they could regain the status they once held. While it may not seem like much, the extra line and goalie really seem to mouse up the works.

As noted, a few Prep coaches tend to pop in looking for players to fill out their rosters. However, the PrePrep Showcase is a much better event for those interested in going the Prep route. This event features the coaches, as well as the school administrators (admissions, financial aid), from some 50 Prep schools in a combination hockey showcase and school fair.

I haven't been down to see Cedorchuck's weekly clinics, but I would imagine he would bring his team out as he has for the past few years.

It will be interesting to see if any college coaches stop in at Salem this week, especially on the heels of Chowder Cup and with both the Stanstead and Magog tournaments running this week. In addition I know several of the schools are running their camps this week.

My recommendation for future teams would be to avoid HNIB and instead play in the Chowder Cup where there is an abundance of college coaches.

I'm still curious with this. Why can't these folks all organize better? Could a college coach answer this, wouldn't it make more sense to have the International Cup be the premere tournament for the summer here in MN, and maybe play the Bean town and Vermont and so on a month apart to make this all work better for the coaches?

I was told there was a Dartmouth jacket wearing person there today. Don't know if that person was a coach though.

I'm just sayin. Seriously though, why can't we all get together and make these things work best for all? Don't we all want to make it the most convinient for the coaches, they are the ones everyone would want there, could be wrong I suppose?

Get a new name. Team Minnesota? Come on, team Minnesota would have more caliber than that roster.

It looks as though they did not need any higher caliber players than that!

Minnesota won the Team Championship and some top individual awards

Top Defender - Melica McMillan
Top Goalies - Racheal Borchurd and Kylie Smith
Top Forward - Olivia Zebro

Congratulations to Bethany Bruasen who top goal scorer with 8 G (next closest was 6 G) and added 5 A.
