Duluth Marshall @ Breck 11-29

The state runner ups lost a lot of seniors. How will they start their season in the cities?

Flat, Flat, Flat.....Such a Mustang hater! They may lose a couple and this may be one of them but I'm going with;

Breck 4 Toppers 2 with an empty netter in a season kick off barn burner prelude to their March matchup!

How's that for optomistic! :P

I would not be surpirsed to see a blowout in the HILLTOPPERS favor, marshall did lose a lot seniors but marshall always reloads............. they still have MAUSOLF AND JACK CONNOLLY

I was serious. Breck will not lose to Marshall. Marshall is down and over-rated this year. Stangs 6 Marshall 2

 Dude-I want some of what you have. Breck has already come out on top in scrimmages with Minnetonka, Moorhead, Burnsville and only lost to the probable repeating AA state champs Hill Murray 2or3-0 and while the Hilltoppers will be good and may even win, they don't resemble anyhing close to AA champs. I doubt the Mustangs lose to anyone this year by more than a couple of goals.

First of all, I'd like it noted that I am a big fan of hockey to the north (Duluth, Cloquet, etc.) more than I am the Twin Cities area. Having said that, I ranked Breck number one this preseason for a reason.

Here is what Breck is returning this year:

Tyson Fulton F 21 31 52
Joe Rehkamp F 23 26 49
Mike Morin F 18 17 35
Riley Borer F 16 8 24
Cameron Born F 7 5 12
Charlie Borer F 5 7 12
Chase Nystedt F 5 5 10
David Zosel F 0 1 1
Reid Herd D 4 15 19
Ben Gislason D 1 14 15
Joe Zeidler D 3 7 10
Michael Mooney D 2 8 10
Shayne Ciernia D 0 1 1
David Crowe D 0 6 6

Goalie: John Russell 11 3.01 1385 731

Here is what Duluth Marshall is returning:

Zach Mausolf F 24 17 41
Pat Mahoney F 15 22 37
Joe Kozlak F 9 10 19
Dane Morin F 2 5 7
Matt Morsette F 3 3 6
Nate Rich F 2 2 4
Derek Stauber D 4 6 10

Goalies:
Willie Paul 2.07 888 393
Matt Messina 1.24 701 194

Good luck to Marshall but, to be real, Breck is going to be very tough to beat this year. They should win it all.

FINAL SCORE

TOPPERS 1 BRECK 5

Very one sided game for Breck, it was hard to hear the anouncer, I didnt get the final shots on goal count, Breck was much quicker and had a lot more quality chances, my guess on shots is 30 to 18 for Breck
Basketball, a great game for guys who cant play Hockey

Breck plays a soft schedule each year, jump up to AA and see how good they are.

You are correct, Duluth Marshall's schedule is a lot tougher than Breck's, After looking at the Hilltopper's schedule and watching them today I say they will have no more than 12 victories all year!

I do agree with you, but the timing of this comment is off.

They just played the defending state champions buddy.

"Breck plays a soft schedule each year"...really? They do?

-They are in a conference consisting of themselves, Blake, Minnehaha Academy, Providence Academy, St Paul Academy and St Paul Saints. That takes up 10 of their 25 games. Two of them will be good games (against Blake) year in and year out, the others probably blowouts, but they cannot help that.
-For the past number of years they have been playing in the Schwan Cup. This year they are in the Silver Division, where they are the only Class A school. They play East first then the options are endless. 13/25 games.
-STA/DM. DM has placed 2nd at state each of the last three years. STA has placed 1st 2 of the last 3 years. 15/25 games.
-Red Wing, Rochester Lourdes, Mahtomedi x2, Totino Grace, and Orono. Usually top Class A teams, including a section opponent. 21/25 games.
-St Louis Park, St Paul Johnson x2, St Paul Como Park. Filler games, but someone has to play them and not every non-conference game can be against top notch competition.

If they are as good as the hype this year they have a good shot at winning the Silver Division and being in Gold next year. Also, the "filler games" may become tougher competition. Not a AA schedule, no, but a good A schedule considering their conference.

-They are in a conference consisting of themselves, Blake, Minnehaha Academy, Providence Academy, St Paul Academy, St Paul Como Park, St Paul Johnson and St Paul Saints. That takes up 13 of their 25 games (only play St Paul Academy once this year). Two of them will be good games (against Blake) year in and year out, the others probably blowouts, but they cannot help that.
-For the past number of years they have been playing in the Schwan Cup. This year they are in the Silver Division, where they are the only Class A school. They play East first then the options are endless. 16/25 games.

-St Louis Park. Filler game relatively speaking, but not the worst opponent out there.

Not a AA schedule, no, but a very good A schedule considering their conference. They play over half their games against conference foes; something, like AHA, they cannot affect. All but one of their remaining 12 games are against quality teams. They could do very well in the Silver Cup, possibly win it, and after how well they did against the Hilltoppers, there is probably only one other game on their schedule they could possibly lose.
