Anoka has been playing well in D10 league play and three weeks ago they pushed Blaine in the final game of the Hall of Fame tourney. Orono has gotten off to a good start in D3 play, but have yet to beat someone like Anoka. Anoka should come out on top in the first round of the quarter final game.

Two teams that have been struggling battle in the other bracket game, Rogers and Prior Lake. The Lakers are a tough skating team, but lack scoring punch. In going winless in six D6 league games, they lost by an average of two goals (ignoring a 9-1 loss to Edina). Rogers has had similar going in D10 with a losing 1-5 record. They have played tough in all their league games. The nod here goes to Rogers. They seem to be playing better lately.

In the other bracket, another D10 team, Blaine, takes on Hutchinson (D5). Blaine is 8-3-1 and has been playing well, but come into the tourney off a loss to Champlin Park, 2-0. Hutchinson has been playing for less then a month and has played three games; one was a 5-1 win over STMA. The Blaine game will be a real test for them, but Blaine should come out on top.

STMA plays Hopkins in the last game of the opening round. The Knights are coming off a 7-2 win over Litchfield, but have been erratic in their first four games. The Royals have struggled in losing two close games to Eastview 3-2 and Mpls Park 2-0, before being blown out by New Prague 7-0, but they should beat the Knights in the final opening round game.

For the first semifinal game, D10 rivals Anoka and Rogers will battle it out with the Tornadoes should win. In the other game, Blaine and host, Hopkins contend. Blaine lost to Wayzata 1-0 in mid-October. Hopkins lost to Wayzata 10-0 two weeks ago. The Royals are a spunky, tough team, but not tough enough to beat Blaine.

That sets up an all D10 final with Anoka playing Blaine. These two teams played each other in the Hall of Fame tourney, Blaine wining 5-2. They played each other 10 days ago, tying 1-1. But Blaine hold a 4-3 victory over Osseo/Maple Grove (one of their two losses) and will be too tough for Anoka. But this final game will be a good game to watch.

Blaine walked all over Hutchinson, and STMA takes a win against the host team. Why did Hopkins put themselves against all 4 STMA teams and then go 0-4? They didn't do their homework. Blaine will walk away with this tournament with no problem.
