Let's Play Hockey Rankings (Peewee A)

Post by Ron Hextall »

Now that the first big tournaments have been completed it becomes easier to see where the peewee A teams are at this year. Here is LPH's ranks for 12/4. Agree, disagree, comments, should be in there, let's open it up for some debate.

1. Wayzata - Looks to be the top team so far.
2. Burnsville - 20 straight victories, pretty much handled the field in their home tourney and just beat Edina.
3. Elk River - Third place finish in E.P., put a spanking on Roseau.
4.O.M.G. - Beat Edina in E.P., Won consolation bracket.
5. Edina - Coming back to pack a little bit or everyone is catching up.
6. Eden Prairie - Strong showing in home tourney (2nd place), great turn around since season started.
7. Roseau - Solid showing in E.P. for a team that's been together for only a couple of weeks.
8. Blaine - 2 consecutive tournament championships won H.O.F. and Hopkins.
9. Cloquet - After Roseau, the next best team from the north, quick skating good passing team.
10. Centennial - Probably a little high for them, but a quality win against OMG and made it to Sunday in E.P.
11. Woodbury - Up and down team, faired well in E.P. with the exception of that 9-0 loss to Elk River.
12. Chaska - Too High for them, only quality win was early versus Cloquet, just lost to Jefferson in D6.
13. White Bear - Best team in D2 right now, good showing in E.P.
14. East Grand Forks - Just got rolling, cruised to Championship in there home tourney then lost to a Fargo team they beat a week earlier. Could be a little higher.
15. St. Cloud - Off to a good start, but hasn't really played anybody, top victory is over Cambridge, lost to IMG and Moundsview.
16. Stillwater - off to a good start, but really slipped in E.P., must rebound in Duluth or they should drop out.
17. Duluth Lakers - At 3-4 with victories over E.P. (early and E.P.'s 2nd or third game of day), East and Hermantown. Don't understand why they are in top twenty.
18. Eagan - I guess they felt the need to add another D8 team in here, not worthy of a top spot right now, squeaked by a bad Lakeville South team in league this week and lost to Farmington week before.
19. Lakeville North - Still in here after they struggled in Burnsville, made it to Sunday in BV Barely, but managed only 7 goals in 5 games and won only 1 game.
20. Champlin Park - Followed up victory over Blaine with 4 straight losses and a last place finish in Super Rink tourney , sub .500 team.

Teams that should be in top twenty:
Andover - Super Rink tourney champions, solid victory over Centennial, don't understand how Champlin can be in and not them.

Moundsview - Solid victory over St Cloud, missed out on Super Rink Championship by a shootout with Andover. Pnly losses to Blaine, Centennial, White bear, and Roseville.

Roseville - Faired well in BV tourney, have solid first two lines, loss to BV in championship 7-1 and early season loss to Jefferson seem off, but put them in over Lakers, Eagan, Lakeville North and Champlin.

Teams Looking to make a jump:
Rosemount - Mankato Champions, seem to lose to top teams and beat who they should.

New Prague - 10-2 record indicates they can win, but schedule strength is key here, now real quality wins (unless you count 7-1 over Hopkins) and losses to Mankato and Kennedy.

Eastview - Off to good start in D6 play, bad showing in Burnsville.

Duluth Lakers could prove they belong in top 20 w/ good showing in Spirit of Duluth this weekend, especially against solid competition. Even though early season, a solid win over E.P. both teams 2nd game of the day. Lakers have a solid team, good balance, size, goaltending, but can they handle and/or live up to the expectations?

Tested is a proper word. The Lakers draw Wayzata, then Eagan, then Burnsville. If they are truly a top 20 team they should beat Eagan. The Wayzata and Burnsville game, both are cruising right now so making it close or winning really puts a feather in their cap.

Can they do it remains to be seen.

7. Roseau - Solid showing in E.P. for a team that's been together for only a couple of weeks.

Yeah they just started, but I think anyone will agree, this was not solid.

Roseau won the toughest pool of the tournament to get there on Sunday. Agreed not a good Sunday for them, but when you come out #1 in a pool with Edina and OMG, the #4 & #5 teams in the state respectively. I would say that is pretty solid.

One wonders how their legs would have been if they skated in a pool with Minneapolis Park, Alaska and White Bear or how about Chaska, Woodbury and Lakeville South.

good point, that pool was ridiculously stacked to keep a team or two away from Sunday, and Roseau won it.

How can these rankings be taken seriously when you have a bias coach/coaches ranking their own team. We need more of a objective opinion.

It's obvious your team is ranked low or not at all. LPH rankings are very good 1-10 all the time and 11-15 most most of the time.

I believe they still need a unbias ranking

It's the same for both baseball, and hockey. The top ten belong there somewhere, teams that should be there are overlooked, and a couple of teams that are in the 11- 15 range have no business being there at all.
