Idea for an awesome weekend of hockey up north

Post by TheHockeyDJ »

Semi finals Saturday is always a blast at the DECC in 7AA. To make that weekend better, I think the Gophers should schedule their weekend at the DECC that same time, and the 7A semi-finals should also be played at the DECC. Have 7A semi-finals at 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM. 7AA semi-finals 2:00 and 4:30. Gophers/Bulldogs at 8:30 PM start Saturday night, or Sunday afternoon. FSN then could televise all these games because they'd be in Duluth for the Gophers anyways.

Thoughts???

The ice at the DECC would be terrible by the time the 5th game rolls around. I don't think the single a teams would enjoy playing at 9 in the morning either, especially when most teams would be travelling there. It's plenty of hockey with the two double a semi's and then the college game that night.

Split 'em. Play the A semis on Friday evening.

Bad ice would just slow down the Gophers on Saturday night. Good for tUMD. Image

Too bad the slow ice still wouldn't help the pups enough...

Do the NCAA coaches have a say in the layout of the WCHA schedule? I think we should get a petition going for the Gophers to play at UMD on semifinal weekend every year.
