Steffen 5 on 5 league
What are the opinions on this league?
Re: Steffen 5 on 5 league
I know nothing about it but it is on the path to determine who the best players really are by taking them off so many power plays and making them show their skills 5 on 5. I really like the idea. Even better if the league doesn't allow "loaded" lines. In other words: leddy, Gardiner, Prochno as an example on one line. Or Lee, Benik, Hanowski on another. If the league rolls out three balanced lines everyone will get better. If high school truly was for development of athletes this is how it would be anyway.Marty McSorely wrote:What are the opinions on this league?

Steffen draws a pretty talented group of kids and my son had a great experience. But keep in mind that these teams are basically on their own for line formations. There were times when only 8 kids would show up and then Steffen would switch it up to a 4 on 4. There is no coach.....only a whistle to signal line changes and refs.
My experience is only with the high school fall group. I do not know how bantams are run.

not bad league
lots of skating lots of goals not much D. Its good for the guys to skate and keep their legs. Its not a top practice league, its like open hockey but he brings some of the better varsity players from around the St Paul side. Also has quite a few edina/bsm and others. I'd just guess to say its about 80% St Paul suburban; i.e. wbl, medi, hill, centenial/ etc.. and a team or two from edina/bsm or west subs. theres also one from river falls. they're not bad but a little out of place at this level. Top varsity guys will keep their legs going, jv players will get a taste of some varsity guys, and goalies will get a lot of 2 on 1/0's.
I can't speak for the spring league, a lot of guys proly play lacross/bball or something and are done with hockey til summer/fall.
