CENTENNIAL (16-3-3) VS. BLAINE (19-2-1) - SATURDAY, 7:30 PM

Post by mnsportsnetwork »

Saturday's rematch between the Centennial Cougars and the Blaine Bengals can be heard LIVE on the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network, found online on their website:

www.MnSportsNetwork.com

The first match-up finished in a 4-4 tie, after Centennial had a 4-2 lead going into the third period. After the game, tempers flared. What should we expect for this game???

I don't think it will be quite that big of a thrashing but I like how Blaine recovered from their loss with the win over North Metro (I know they're terrible).
Give me Blaine 4-2 EN
I get older they stay the same age, alright alright

Sorry 4-2 Bengals. Blaine has Centennial's number. While Centennial coaches are very solid, this is the one team each year that the current Blaine coaching staff really pulls out all of the stops to prepare for and never disappoints.

I wish I could make it to this one. The Cougars HAVE to win inorder to have a chance at the #1 seed in the sectionals. I believe Maple Grove woulds still have the tie breaker with them. However if Blaine wins they'll be in the driver seat for the #1 seed. This game has huge implications. I would asume if Blaine wins they could even lose their last game against Maple Grove and get the #1 seed.

5-3 Blaine with an empty netter.

Two solid goaltenders tonight. What i think it will come down to is whoever jumps out with an early lead.

Great teams, great rivalry, should be a classic game this evening. Both teams have few weaknesses and while both teams are solid between the pipes I do think the talented forwards will find ways to put a good number of pucks in the net, just like the last matchup. I'll take...

Bengals 5 (EN)

Cougars 3

Obviously have to take the home town team.

Both schools are in Blaine. So either way you would be taking the home town team :D

I'll take the "home town team" to the east...... 4-3

Actually, Centennial High School is in Circle Pines so my Big and Sexy friend is correct. But if you're taking the home town team too, I'm glad we have another Blaine fan on board :D :D

wow, what a battle it was. It was definitely the most physical game of the season for both teams.

It seemed like there was hit after hit after hit it was never ending until the final buzzer. I was suprised that there were no fights.
Well played game on both sides. Hats off to Centennial on winning at Blaine's home ice (which was probably the most packed ive seen in a really long time)

Actually Centennial is within the Blaine City limits. But it is in the Circle Pines zip code. Just as I am in the Lino Lakes City limits but have a Circle Pines zip code.

I'm not too sure on what your logic is there. I assume you are referring to the two goals that Centennial had disallowed in the late minute. If you want those counted then you have to allow Bjugstad's second goal. Bjustad's goal was definitely a goal. It hit the back bar, bounced out, then the net was dislodged. I was standing right behind the net so I would like to think I had a good vantage point. Centennial's second disallowed goal was definitely not a goal. The original shot hit the pipe and a sliding Harper knocked the net off before the second shot was taken. I will give you that the first disallowed goal was very questionable.

Either way it was a great game for both teams. I hope to see this match-up again in sections but hopefully with a different outcome. :D :D

Really? Good thing I grew up in Ham Lake then and not Blaine....I would never be able to share a city with those dirty Cougars.

I'm not sure how long the CURRENT coaching staff has been at Blaine, but I wouldn't say Blaine has Centennial's number at all. Before last nights game here are the reults dating back to 2003.

2008-2009
Centennial -4
Blaine - 4

2007-2008
Centennial 4 - Blaine 1
Blaine 5 - Centennial 3
Blaine 6 - Centennial 1

2006-2007
Centennial 5 - Blaine 3
Centennial 2 - Blaine 1

2005-2006
Blaine 3 - Centennial 1
Blaine 5 - Centennial 1

2004-2005
Centennial 7 - Blaine 0
Centennial 3 - Blaine 2

2003-2004
Centennial 17 - Blaine 0

So prior to last nights game, Centennial lead 6 wins to Blaine's 4 wins with 1 tie.
