Running up the score

I see that Luverne beat Redwood 18 - 1 last night in section 3A. What is wrong with that coach? That shows no respect for the other team who is obvisouly inferior talent wise.

Maybe it does. Maybe it could have been 36-0. Maybe the girls who scored the 17th and 18th goals were getting their first goals of the year? Blanket comments about sportmanship mean nothing. What's is your relationship to this game? Were you there? You ask what's wrong with the coach...which coach? The one who won or the one who lost. It's playoffs now you play to win.

I was at the game. Luverne scored 3 goals in the last 2 1/2 minutes of the game. THe score was 8-0 after first period. 14-1 after 2. Playing to win when you have a 8-0 lead after te first period does not require slap shots in the third period.

Redwood Valley has a 7th grade goalie who had not played goalie until Mid January. Apparently, the Luverne coach was upset because he did like how the Redwood coach voted his team for seeding purposes.

I agree with you Hockeyfan2

There is no good excuse to beat up a struggling team. You can beat them, but you don't have to beat them up.

If the problem goes to the fact that Windom was seeded #2, and Luverne a close #3, there really isn't anything to be so upset about. The outcome for semifinals would most likely been the same with Windom vs Luverne.

Personally, I do not ever see a need for double digit blow out wins in hockey. Gladly my children play or have played for coaches who do not see any reason to beat down teams by double digits, as they certainly could at times.

Good sportsmanship in my opinion is when teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials treat each other with respect. If they practice good sportsmanship, they are more likely to carry this respect and appreciation of other people into every other aspect of life. Great life lessons in my opinion!

New Ulm is a definite power house and by my personal observations will be the favorite to win Section 3A. I'll give that a 90% bet. New Ulm has a great, new facility with year round ice. That is a plus for any hockey organization.

But we here in SW do realize the farther you go North, the bigger and better the hockey teams get. There is no denying that. More ice.....more ice time....more practice....makes perfect.
